No, Emmitt was one of the players on the field during the play who took his helmet off, not somebody on the sidelines without a helmet walking out after the play...
Right. But the rule cited in the OP is in fact the Emmitt Smith rule. As I said, it didn't actually apply here.

Don't they usually give a sideline warning if players get too close before they start throwing flags?

The helmet has nothing to do with it. A payer coming of the sideline to argue a call is an unsportsmanlike 15 yarder. We got lucky.

I don't know what the rule is, but there really is no difference between an offensive and defensive player. For all the refs know, Dez could have been coming on the field as part of a personnel change.....

As he was screaming at the ref?

Yeah, I was extremely worried as I saw Dez out on the field that we were about to get slapped with a 15 yarder. I don't feel it would have been an unjustifiable call either.

Let's minus this from a total hack job of an officiating mess.

This game will go down in history as to who really won in the laymen's eye. Damn shame.

Thanks to "playoff" refs.

Grand idea.

or they just don't bother throwing the flag on that,,,

If he would have been more persistent they would have. He sopped shouting quickly, they probably never noticed him. Like I said, they seemed pretty confused over the initial call. They did pick the flag up. I'm sure they were focused on the call. But what ever.

Saw this on ESPN:

On the Hitchens (non) pass interference call Dez ran out onto the field to protest the call. He was not wearing a helmet. Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1(j) prohibits "removal of a helmet by a player in the field of play or the end zone during a celebration or demonstration or during a confrontation with a game official or any other player."

I did notice Dez run out there and for a split second I <did> worry about exactly that.

Anybody else worry about that at that moment?

But he didn't remove his helmet. It was already off. Lol. But like another poster said in response to the non call helping us win. I'm onto Green Bay
