I didn't take Stephens side either. I'm not even worried about the negotiations part of it. It irks me that he would say the Jones' aren't dedicated to him, when if anything they are overly dedicated to their players.

Yeah but were you critical of them? What they did bringing up dirt from the past was a lot more foul than a tweet.

Some fan said I love how loyal you are to the Cowboys and the thread title was his response. He also added that it's business. This things getting annoying and I feel will lead to a hold out or he'll miss a lot of off-season stuff. I'm his biggest supporter and want him to get paid, but he is going to clearly be PISSED if he gets tagged. Last thing we need is our best player being pissed. I'm not saying give him Calvin money but give this man his money. We need him more then he needs us, 100%

The problem here may be that he knows we need him more than he needs us. That can ruin a relationship if his agent uses this point as leverage.

The Cardinals want out of the Fitz contract and the Lions want out of the CJ contract... There has to be a happy medium here. Judging by the restraint being shown around Valley Ranch lately... This might get ugly and some fans are going to be pissed..

Two common themes with both those teams,,,they both took care of there player, paid them the big money...and neither of them have sniffed a Super Bowl....does paying top dollar for all-star WR get you to the Superbowl? Thats the hard pill to swallow....love Dez but paying him could set this team back.....how many $100mill players can one team have and WIN a Superbowl.. again Love Dez ....but not sure the road to the SuperBowl means paying a WR $100million.

Cowboys are trying to get a deal done, it takes 2 to get it done. As for the tag, it is what it is and if it comes to that I expect Dez to go out and do his job. Spencer got tagged and put up his best season so why should I expect anything less from Dez. No one wants to get tagged, heck even the Cowboys do not want to use the tag on him but will do so as a last resort

Cards never had a viable quarterback after Kurt Warner retired. They totally spit the bit there. Their defenses have been good enough, but their offense has been trash since Kurt.

With Detroit, I'm actually unsure why they haven't had more success. Elite defense, elite WR, a good enough QB.. Go figure.

The cowboys do feel the same way about dez. That's why they've offered a great deal. Just because they don't want to pay him more than any non QB in the league doesn't mean they don't value him. This is roc nations fault.

Players don't like the franchise tag. It's not a badge of honor. And no matter what we, joe fan, thinks, it's a business for players too. The tag limits their abilities to market themselves.

He's always said he didn't want the franchise tag. and he's never said anything unprofessional about it. The sign of loyalty from a player's perspective is to NOT franchise them. But it is what it is, I'm all for players getting theirs...

That said, I'm not worried about the talk between Dez and the team right now. If there haven't been any negotiations since the beginning of the season, I can't imagine a deal happening anytime soon when they haven't even made courtesy calls to one another. lol

Players whine about the Tag but it really isn't bad for them. Dez would get 12.7m this year and 15.2m next year, that's 28m.

He will be lucky to get that much guaranteed in a long term deal. And he will still be a FA in 2 years at 28 years old and can still get a nice signing bonus on a new deal.

If he wants security and to stay with Dallas for life, then he has to give up some top dollar demands.

Dez is a chump! The Cowboys traded up to get the guy with major baggage, they put a ton of people in his life to help his off the field life & stayed loyal to him after multiple incidents. This kid talking about loyalty should realize Jay-z and his brand only came calling after he started dominating and then he started flashing his stupid symbol all season

He wants Calvin money plus. So you are saying give him Calvin money.

Calvin has $35M of that contract in the last 2 years. Doubtful he even sees "Calvin money". I'd say after this season he's at risk of being cut, which could leave almost half the contract unpaid.

Higher totals make players feel good and give them bragging rights. That's about it because with so much money on the backend the player is very unlikely to be on the roster when all those big paychecks come in.

Couldn't disagree more with your first line.
Couldn't agree more that he should realize Jerry and Co. stood by him before he became a top 3 WR.
Let's hope a deal gets done before camp

But he will also probably get tagged again in 2016 for 15.2m. That's 28m for 2 years, not far off 30-40m.

Yup, Team and love for the player aside. Dez did this to himself. All the crap the Cowboys dealt with his first few yrs in the league. If he wouldve just worried about football instead of all the partying he was doing he wouldve had whatever he wanted IMO.

And he could also have a serious and almost career-ending injury like Anthony Spencer while playing on that tag and then there would be no way he got that kinda money.

It's not what they say, but the tag numbers are so high it's actually beneficial. Even Spencer made 20m for two years.

And broke his knee in the process... He got "lucky" in that it happened AFTER the 2nd tag, otherwise he'd have never gotten it.

You pay the best the most money. It's the price of business. We can't get by offering scraps to men playing since they were 10 for one or two big deals. Pay the man (men) and move on to building the rest out.

But I get it, both sides just negotiating. We'll know they're almost done when one side or the other says they're about to walk.
