The only issue I have is why use that play in a meaningless game with the playoffs approaching?

We run those type of plays so seldom that I doubt we'd ever see it otherwise. I only remember us running one other trick play this season, although we may have used two.

I think Garrett would rather use them in a way to let teams know we have them than to use them in a playoff game.

I totally agree with you. We should've saved it for the playoffs. We need to come up with more now I would guess.

My hope is that they've got another play built off of that one. You know, where they need the defense to be watching for Dez to throw. That's the only good reason I can think of.

Kinda a big risk in a playoff game to let dez throw in the red zone, no? But at least this way, the other teams can get trickiness in their heads and it'll mess with em.

There is no risk at at all letting Dez run that play. if the receiver is not open he doesn't throw it at all and runs it. Good luck trying to tackle him one on one in the open field with a head of steam. We will see this play again doesn't have to be in the redzone either.

I was talking about dez letting the ball go in the air...that IS risky for someone that isnt a pass thrower.

Same goes for letting Dontari Poe take a basketball shot at the endzone with a football. Risky.

It's still a split second surprise to react, even if you suddenly go, "wait, I've seen this." Plus, my guess is next time the D may drop back, Witten gets his block instead of faking it, and Dez runs a long way. He could have run that thing down close to goal line last night if Witten blocked the one guy there instead of running by him.

My guess is it's Witten's read...no one in front of you, let the guy go and it's a pass play; if defenders downfield in front of you, bock that one guy and it's a run play.

I don't agree with this. It gives other teams something additional to plan against, and it's not as if the play can't ever be run again.

Hmm interesting point. And also opposing defenses will have to worry about this play in the playoffs so we gave them something to look at

If the opposition has to spend time planning against that specific play, it takes time away from preparing something else. It's a win for the Cowboys either way.

Because they tend to avoid plays like that when games really matter and by running it now, it will make the defenses prepare or at least react to the same motions in the same way that the fake Jet Sweep plays help pull or cause hesitation with a defensive end. If a defender now sees Dez Bryant running behind Dak at the time of the snap, he will have to hesitate to make sure the ball wasn't handed off. It could also be a setup play where they run the same scheme, but fake the handoff to Dez and he runs the route, then takes off down the field. It could also just be a "let the team have some fun" play too.

Everyone is acting like this was our one great play and it only has one use and because we used it, we're screwed.

That's right ... I floaty'ed you with that emote :D

There is no risk in letting Dez throw. If the Receiver is not wide open he won't throw it and will run with it instead. Have to use that play again in playoffs as it is another weapon that defenses have to defense.

Some have said that the risk is Dez being anxious to complete the play since it rarely happens, so he will throw it even if it isn't open.

My guess is that now it's out there. Something else the defense has to account for. Trick plays are just that, another wrinkle you have to account for.

A meaningless game--let's see if it actually works. It did. On to the next.
