I grew up a Cowboy fan and Michael Irvin was one of my favorite Cowboy players ever. I loved Mikes passion, leadership, and just the way he played the WR position. I am really starting to think however,Dez may be the better player. What say you Cowboyszone?

Dez is twice the athlete and just as much of a warrior on the field.

Irvin is one of the best ever but I'd have to go Dez.

It would be interesting to compare the dropped passes and fumbles at the same point in their careers. I don't know how to look that up but I bet Irvin has less in both.

Also, Michael had Emmitt to carry the load during games, so he saw less opportunities. It isn't fair to compare the two different eras, totally different offenses(minus this season).

Irvin knew how to use his body and hands very well to get position for a catch, Dez uses his elite athletic ability to go get it. Irvin also ran precise routes, clean and crisp. Not saying Dez doesn't now, he is getting better.

Irvin was a better technical receiver and Dez may very well develop those same skills.

I would love to have seen Michael play with Romo and this offense(again, minus this season)........his numbers would dwarf Bryant's IMO.

I never understood the the propensity for some of you to put the anointing oil on these current Cowboys. I guess the next comparison will be Tyron Smith>Larry Allen. Let these current Cowboys win a couple of playoff games first before we start saying who's better than who.

Mike had Troy, Emmitt, a fantastic offensive line and a great defense. Up until now, all Dez has had is a great QB. He will improve now that we have a better offensive line and a defense.

Its still early for Dez. He is more athletic than Mike and faster than Mike ever was. The sky is the limit for the kid.

Yeah the conversation is about individual player performance comparisons. If Dez had Troy throwing to him all doubts would cease as to who the better receiver is...

Dez is in his 5th year in the league. I think what you see with Dez is pretty much what it is -- which is to say he is elite WR.

My personal opinion is that Dez isn't as a complete at WR as Irvin was, however, Dez is certainly better at a few aspects including jump balls, contested balls, etc

I respectfully disagree, Perry. What is it that Mike did better? Dez is now a more than above average blocker, good route runner, strong after the catch and has arguably the best hands as a WR in the NFL in my opinion. He catches near anything. His only true weakness is not having blowout speed. If he had that, there would be no question who is the #1 in the league would be. Dez has a very Michael Jordan approach to the game. If he has a weakness that is within his power to change, he does it because he demands to be the best. Mike was the same way.

Irvin was the heart and soul of 3 Super Bowl teams. He's one of very few WRs that gave Deion problems when they played against each other.

Dez has more physical ability in terms of running faster, jumping higher, etc..

I think they're equal to be honest. One on one there is not a DB in any time frame that won't get beat up consistently.

Like when Jerry asked Deion, "What is it Deion? 10, 15 Million?"

Deion said, boff....! lol
