If AD holds out for TC it may force the vikings hand. Then AD may become cheaper, let's say a 3rd rounder.

I have to wonder if the Herschel Walker trade never took place with the Vikes if they'd be more inclined to do it. I think that permanently scarred that franchise and city to no end. I doubt they want to be responsible for the Cowboys winning another Super Bowl (or two) again.

I'm sure that plays a factor.

If the Cowboys wanted to get Peterson, my thoughts are they would have already made the move.

I think the following things might be factors though

a) In June you can trade or cut Carr without absorbing the full impact of his dead money.
b) We're still waiting to see how many games Hardy will actually miss.
c) We're still trying to sign Dez, which should open up the cap.
d) The team wants to see how our running backs do in training camp.

I would say an early injury to either Randle or McFadden should accelerate any potential move to get Peterson.

Training Camp doesn't start until july 24th, so that's really the date we're looking at. You'd want to bring Peterson in before then.

He is using reverse psychology. By saying the Vikings won't let it happen......then the Vikings will say, oh, we will show him and prove him wrong....they will call JJ and offer a trade.....

I think it would have the opposite effect. It was one thing for Jones to say he would consider making a move under the right circumstances than for Dez to suggest it would not be in their best interest.

I think there are many reasons why the Vikings wouldn't want to trade him to us.

1) They don't want Peterson to get what he wants.
2) They don't want to strengthen one of their chief competitors.
3) They don't want to turn us into a dynasty.
4. They're still bitter about the Walker trade.
5. They might think with their defense now, they have an opportunity with Peterson.

I doubt if they even get that for him. His contract is an obstacle for team that might want to trade for him and he has not incentive to rework his contract to be traded to some other team if he really wants to play for the Cowboys.

It's really up to Peterson.

He could hold out the entire training camp and make things miserable for them. Then he could show up the day before the season to collect a check and generally just be a PR nightmare for them by getting in front of every mic and demanding a trade.

Not really his style, but he could.

The only way I see us getting Peterson is if they release him.

I still think he will be released unless they have patched things up (His agent seems to be changing his tune lately).
