not totally shocked by this.......Roc Nation plays hardball because they can. They know they gotta get the best deal for Dez with other potential clients looking at what they do. No hometown discount here. I am starting to believe that Dez was hoping for the old Jerry to negotiate rather than mostly Stephen. They may have to franchise him this year and then be replaced next year much like Murray, although Murray;s replacement is still in limbo. Or maybe I guess wide receiver by committee will work, just like RBBC.

Our OL will give Tony 10 seconds to find an open receiver. ANY Joe Schmo receiver can get open if you give him 10 seconds, right?

note: the above may include some sarcasm for those in Rio Linda.

Dez will soon realize he can be a part of something great or just be another guy with the largest contract(for a few months)

He does not strike me as the type that wants to miss one minute of this coming season

Things change quickly in the NFL and the new flavor of the month starts getting all the hype

It was Jerruh that said himself if Dez takes care of business and performs he would be rewarded upwards the hundred million - Calvin Johnson range. Now that Dez held up his end of the bargain they won't hold theirs?

You are right on. i do remember Jerry saying that. look let's face it. Dez saw what happen with Murrah. they cowboys let him walk.and he knows he may be next. so Dez is going to do what's best for Dez. and i don't blame him. no new contract then no OTS from Dez. it's business.

You still don't get it. so i will spell it out to you again. DEZ WANTS TO BE PAID FOR HIS PRODUCTION.PERIOD. yes he wants to help the cowboys win a championship.but he wants to be paid with a long term deal. he wants his money now based on his production. and right now the cowboys are saying no long term deal. so Dez is just making it about business. and i don't blame him a bit.

Its not just him as a player its what he represents. The character vs the negative identity he was given. Im not saying I wouldnt be a fan lol, i just may be more inclined to watch Russel Wilson more haha.

Yeah I hear you bro. It would def suck to lose him.

I've heard that they want Dez to put together a support staff like he had when the Cowboys assigned Wells to him. Dez doesn't think he needs one. The Cowboys do. And until that happens they aren't going to guarantee him all of that money.

I don't know how true this really is. The media has been on Dez since before the draft. I feel bad for Dez really.
This is a grown man with children who has done nothing wrong. If I am Dez I would tell anyone that told me a need a babysitter where they can kiss.
I really hope they are not still treating Dez like some 16 year old street thug.

I think Jerry wants to sign him long term, but Stephan and Will don't think typing up that much money in a wr is smart

I understand that athletes want to get the most money as possible... but seriously... when someone's offering you a $100 million contract, and you're holding out in protest to get $110 or $115 million instead... it just seems ridiculous to me. I love Dez but come on...

I didn't think it would be this difficult to get a deal done.

I don't know why people thought it wouldn't be that hard to get a deal done. Before they tagged him people thought 11m and 30m guarntee would get it done. I laughed at them then and I'm still laughing. We all knew what the Cowboys offer was and we SHOULD HAVE all knew dez was asking for cj type money. That's very far apart.

I'm a huge dez homer, but if I were objectively running the organization, I might very well offer Dez a 10-11 apy and if he doesn't take it, then the best of luck to him.

Not saying he isn't one of the best WRs in the game (because ability-wise, he IS that), but I just don't think that an elite QB like Romo necessarily needs a top shelf WR talent to find consistent success. He was able to do it with/without TO, and he was still churning out numbers before Bryant blossomed. In the last 40 years, I can only think of one WR talent (Moss) who had the ability to tilt the field regardless of system, scheme and could markedly improve a QB's numbers and team winning % by a drastic amount.

When I look at NE's system, they have a bunch of average, but experienced WRs and Brady's numbers have stayed relatively consistent despite the high turnover at the WR position, injuries to their best pass catchers. In fact the one year his numbers dropped a bunch was the year that their very excellent oline coach, Dante Scarnecchia left and they lost a bunch of lineman to injury.

And as much as I hate to say it, I think Chip Kelly has the right idea in philly as well. Getting rid of WR headaches and big cap numbers when he has confidence in his system getting guys open is a smart move, while investing in line protection in the draft.

The Deymarius Thomas situation is also a big factor in this. Neither team wants to set to the market. If DT signs a deal, it would be much easier for Dez/Cowboys to agree to numbers. The whole security detail aspect is a different matter altogether......

The guaranteed money in the CJ deal and the other big WR deals pending made this negotiation a lot tougher than I thought it would be, but they'll still very likely get something done.

Does this put an end to Ed Werder's source suggesting Dez would miss mandatory offseason work? Or not quite yet? I guess we have to wait for his tender to be signed for that to be proven to be the unsourced sensationalizing most of us recognized it to be from the start.

In any event, it's good Dez is excited and on board for the team activity this year.

Your opinion of the situation is no more the truth than mine.

For the record, the Patriots and Seahawks just to the Super Bowl without any great receivers.

I still do not understand the anger and concern in this thread.

Bryant has done nothing wrong, the Cowboys are probably trying to let the market be set for them.

But there is everything from hurt feelings to outright hand-wringing.

This is one issue I have zero concern about.

Dez Bryant will play for the Dallas Cowboys this year.

And unless he has less character than I give him credit for, he will do it to the best of his ability.

If he allows it to be a distraction, that is on him.
