Dickerson has zero say whether Elliott will break his record. He's simply playing the odds.

These types of stories and soundbites are much better when a record holder gets asked a question after a season has ended and a record was or wasn't broken. Then people read or hear responses to, "Did you think the record would ever fall before today?" Or "Do you think anyone will ever break your record?" Asking a question before something happens begs for pseudo speculation.

He definitely won't, unless he gets a couple 200 yarders.

He needs to average 115 yards over his final seven games, so I don't think he needs a couple of 200-yarders unless he's held under 100 in any game. The 200-yarders would definitely give him some cushion.

I'm just assuming he has a couple down games here and there; it's inevitable right?!

I do think Zeke has a shot but he needs a 200 yard rushing game to cut it close. If we keep winning we'll shut him down at the end

Rest him before the playoffs if such a luxury presents itself. But I have a feeling this divisional race is going to tighten soon.

The Giants have the Bears and Browns next, so you can pencil in 8-3 for them. One loss, and it's on like Donkey Kong because they beat Dallas already.

Dallas is going to have to lean on Zeke heavily, I'm afraid.

I don't think he's going to quite get it but I won't count him out. I think he has to average 114 yards a game the rest of the way to get it. I would love to see him get it but it's most important that the Cowboys win and he goes into the playoffs healthy.

That makes me think of Jay Ajayi. He has a couple of 200 yard games this year and is still 280 yards behind Elliot on the season.

A couple of 200 yard games would make it easier to reach the rookie record, but aren't absolutely required. Dickerson didn't have any 200 yard games his rookie season, but he did come close with a 192 yard game and a 199 yard game. Dickerson had 5 games with over 130 yards. Elliot has 4 such games so far this year. If he gets two or three games with 140-150 yards or so then that would give him a good chance at the record.

It's possible, especially facing Baltimore and Philly. However, his worst two games were his first two of the season, when he had 51 against New York and 83 against Washington. Since then, he hasn't had less than 92, and he only stopped there against Cleveland because Dallas limited him to 18 carries.

I think we'll probably see him fluctuate between 90 and 150 over the final seven. He could have four games around 130 and three around 100 and get there with around 11 yards to spare.

Whether he gets there might depend on our record. If we're not playing for anything in the final game, then I can't see Dallas putting him out there and risking injury.

Yeah all this cushion talk bothers me, acting like we have cliched something. Zeke will be leaned on for the next few games, and really those decide whether he can get the record. I want him rested later, but right now we have to push.

If we get home field and he's 1 yard away, I'd rather sit him week 17. Course I know that won't happen, but the point is I would rather have a rested Zeke.....do we really want to recount the number of rbs who were ran too hard.....run them for something important like a ring, not for some stupid record.

I think Zeke breaks his record. He will average most games of 80-100 yards and he will have at least 2 more breakouts of at least 150

Zeke's style of running is a lot more physically demanding on him and the defenders trying to tackle him. I'd be more concerned about conserving his strength and overall health for the playoffs,,, Dickerson can have his individual record.
Does Dickerson have a Super Bowl ring?

Dickerson was very complimentary of Zeke and our oline. He thinks Dallas will lighten his load and that is why the record is "safe." He also admited he wanted to keep his record. All and all he sounded like a pretty decent guy. Anyone wanting to punch him in the face or bad mouth him should listen to the interview in context, its uncalled for.

Not sure why anyone would be upset he dont want his record broken. Anyone who has played competitive sports are normally passionate about their accomplishments.
