The kind of coverage ESPN is giving Brett Farve Retirement is Ridiculous. ESPN Has become The Brett Farve Retirment Channel 24/7.

Did Troy Aikman get this kind of coverage from ESPN when he retired in the summer of 2001?

I'll ask the same about Steve Young, John Elway, Dan Marino, Jim Kelly and etc?

Only in Dallas - I was living in Denver at the time and there were a few stories on Aikman but not near this. A lot of the stuff about Aikman was that he was just the base for the real stars - Emmitt and Michael. The story was that without those two, he would not be a HOF'er.

But of course the story was different on Elway, because he is the greatest player ever in the history of the NFL (in Denver). Not much is said up there about it taking Terrell Davis's running to get them their Rings. In Denver it was never about Terrell, but all about the greatest arm ever, Elway.

It has everything to do with personalities, IMHO...Favre was that kind of free spirit funny guy and Troy was more of a conservative and low key personality...Favre was far more media friendly and his gunslinger kinda passing made him a fan favorite...More to do with that then it being an issue of preferring him to Troy as QBs.

No. He wasn't savvy enough to build the suspense for three years before he finally retired. It wasn't even close.

Might have been the concussions....I don't know. Maybe he would have gotten more pub if he could have finished his career off with a game killing interception and yet another playoff choke. Who knows?

Emmitt didn't, either. And I think it's pretty clear that he was a better RB than Favre was a QB. But not quite the media darling.

The media is also very different today. The 24 hour news cycle loops the same info over and over again. If you leave the TV on ESPN all day it becomes unbearable.

Also, Favre is the all-time QB in terms of Yards and TDs and he has the ironman streak of 254 games. He is worthy of the atention, even though he has milked it for 3 years.

I call shenanigans.

That's no fair, to be an overrated QB, first you have to actually be a QB.

ESPN is a joke slobbering over this guy like he just died. It was so refreshing listening to Stephen A. Smith yesterday. Favre was a great competitor, but his whole story is getting tiresome. I've noticed throughout the whole ESPN lovefest no mention of the whole javon walker incident. They're trying to portray him as a saint, but he was anything but that.

So, why do you hate Farve so much?

Don't mistake my lack of genuflecting everytime the great Favre is mentioned for hatred. I'm not gonna in this great Favre love-fest without bringing some reality to the table, but that doesn't mean I have any malice.
