I only caught the very last part, but Norm is on now discussing the fact it sounded as if Jerry was almost sold to the fact that they're going to move Henry to FS.

Norm is also speculating that Dallas may be playing a different alignment next year that Norm is calling something to the effect of a 3-3-1-4 alignment. The one being Roy Williams who would freelance and stay close to the line.

That would all be fine with me!

jerry has been whining the last few seasons about roy and using him differently the fact is personel dictates we don't. maybe the scheme will make up for that.

are they trying to pass roy off as a linebacker now in a modified 3-4?

So you take a guy who is arguably one of the better 2nd corners in the league and you move him to a spot that most defensive coaches would admit is among the easiest to find a quality player for?

Me, I think finding a good 2nd CB is FAR more difficult than finding an FS. We've had problems there but what have we invested so far? A 5th round pick? A new contract for Keith Davis?

We've tried to do this on the cheap -- it will still be far cheaper to get an FS than a new corner.

Rover. I like it.

We used to play it in HS as the 3-4 Monster, Roy as the monster back would be cool.

Finding a safety who can cover is harder than finding a decent corner. Safeties who can cover have been going quick in the draft lately.

Does any team in the NFL use a rover? I think it was 'cool' in high school and college, but I don't recall it in the NFL. I could be wrong though. It wouldn't be the first time. At some point you have to take a look a whether or not Roy can play his position and leave it at that. If we had 5 excellent 330lb lineman would we switch to a 5-2?

I did hear the interview. Norm asked Jerry if they would consider moving Henry to FS. Jerry quickly answered yes, but that was the extent of the discussion concerning Henry. Norm asked Jerry if they would consider moving Williams to OLB in the 3-4. Jerry said that was going too far, but there are things they can do to move him closer to the line of scrimmage where he can make a greater impact. Jerry cited Pittsburgh as a team that plays their safety close the line of scrimmage and does different things with their coverages to compensate.

Well, him mentioning Pittsburghs defense gives me a ray of hope at getting their DC or at least someone on their staff. I think JJ needs to put his foot down on this DC thing if you ask me. I just don't have any faith in Bowles!

To me, it actually sounds more like a 46. I don't know, unless Jerry is intending to bring in one of the Ryan boys, I don't know that he can really knows any of this for sure. One thing I am sure of. If BP stays, he is going to dictate what defense is played. Jerry is probably just talking to talk on this one.

Just last year really -- and that was more about a poor CB class (and a weak draft overall). Plus, Huff and Whitner are SS.

If you recall 2004 and 2005, it was the 2nd round before safeties started to come off the board (Thomas Davis was picked in round 1 but he's a LB now).

Anyone hear old enough to remember when years ago, in the mid to late 70's several Colleges used to play a Rover position they called, "The Monster Man" position? I remember several colleges, Michigan particularly, used that scheme. My old high school coach used that defensive scheme and I got the chance to play the Rover position. It was a lot of fun because "The Monster Man" basically free-lanced.

I'm not saying that's what Norm is saying Roy is going to do, it just brought back an old memory of mine that I hadn't thought about in years and wondered if anyone else remembered the term, "Monster Man"? :)
