Did anyone else think Joseph Randle looked solid?

Good burst. Dont recall any negative yards. Nice hands.

And last but not least NO fumbles.

I think he did just fine.
No fumbles, pass protected well and ran OK.

Yeoman's work.

Really solid for his first start.

They largely abandoned the run until Foles went out of the game, rather than trying to let him get in a groove.

I also didn't understand them not using him like they use Murray (slipping him past the rushing defenseman and dumping off passes).

To me, the Cowboys severely handicapped themselves with their playcalling today. Randle did what he could.

65 yds rushing and 28 receiving. Protected the ball well and looks allot faster than his official times. Not sayin he's the next TD or ES but I think he looked better than Dunbar or Tanner.

He's ok. Too small sample size.

I like to see Dunbar more. Just watch Chris Johnson turn a little screen into a long TD. He just carve up and outran 49er D. We need someone more elusive and speed. I will be more excited to see Dunbar at full strength than Murray to tell you the truth. It's because of his upside.

93 yards on 22 touches, no fumbles. I'll take that. Nice starting debut from Randle.

I thought so too. Nothing flashy but a solid first start for him. He got a game ball, so either the coaches wanted to give him a confidence boost or they saw some things they liked too.

For a guy who started out as our 4th string running back, Randle did a very good job. To put things in perspective, compare his game to that of the league's leading rusher entering the game:

Randle 19 carries for 65 yds, 3 receptions for 28 yards.
McCoy 18 carries for 55 yds 6 receptions for 26 yards.

his pass protection was horrendous.

was it ? I heard the game analyst say they were taking him out on 3rd downs because they wanted tanner in for pass protection. Obviously they passed a lot on 1st and second downs too. Who would you say did better in pas protection - Randle or Tanner

To be honest I think he looked just OK..He is too slow for how thin he is and doesn't finish all of his runs with much power. You can tell he is giving full effort and running hard but IDK if physically he has the capability to be much more than OK.

The good part though? I think this team can get by with backs who are just OK.. so long as they protect the ball and make a play here and there.

I know it's just one game but he looked Murray expendable today IMO.

What does Randle do well?

Most backs who succeed in the NFL--even for a limited time--have something they do well. Julius had a good cutback move. Barber was difficult to tackle in space. Felix had good perimeter speed.

Randle reminds me of Choice in that, while he's not bad at any one aspect, he doesn't excel at any one aspect either.

I think he showed that he can be a reliable backup when called on. If Murray cant go next week hopefully Dunbar will be healthy enough to get the start to show what he can do. I dont know if he can push Murray or not but it would tell us exactly what we have at running back and where we need to address it in the draft next year.
