Did Anyone Hear Mort Say...

...a week or so ago that Mike Holmgren would be willing to take over a team mid-season if a coach was fired?

I was reading the Skins board a week or so ago and there was a discussion about it. Someone said Mort said that on ESPN's Sunday morning pre-game show when discussing Zorn's job status.

If true, I thought that was a very interesting comment in light of Mosley's comments that he was beginning to hear things about Wade's job being in jeopardy if we lost to the Chiefs.

Would Holmgren take this team over mid-season and would Jerry make a move if he felt he had to beat Dan Snyder to the punch? Everyone knows Jerry likes Holmgren a lot and they have a good relationship.

I know this is crazy talk 4 weeks into the season, but that's what you get when you keep a lame duck staff from the previous season that was a disaster. The first hint of adversity and the rumors begin to swirl.

I would like to see Holmgren take over now, see what he can do with Garrett. If Garrett needs to go, bring in Gruden as OC and maybe the LB coach from Pitt for DC

I can't imagine that. Bringing in a coach that runs an entirely new system mid-season? No matter how good the coach is, that would be a disaster. A total disaster.

I agree, although I generally like Holmgren. Once the Seahawks got Tim Ruskell taking over the draft, the Seahawks went on to be a solid drafting team.

The problem with Holmgren is that the O-Line doesn't fit the O-Line's he likes and he will want a 4-3 Cover 2 defense, have fun again trying to get Bradie to play the deep middle in pass coverage.

That being said, I'm surprised more teams and more big name head coaches don't try and take over mid-season. I think that gives the new HC a head start on understanding the talent and and what needs to happen in the offseason so they can be geared to win in the next season.

Has the party ever started???????

Holmgren is my choice.....and if we lose to KC, then I could care less! At least he would get a head start! But it won't happen.

Holmgren could come into Washington because Zorn runs his offense.

Yeah keep hiring Has been old coaches. Thats a recipe for success, that has been proved over the years now:rolleyes:

As bad as Jerry is as GM hiring coaches, I am glad most fans are also not incharge of hiring coaches, including me. Everyone is an expert at hiring coaches.

A guy that couldn't quite get over the hump despite a talented team in a laughably weak division for years.

Pass.

I would rather have Shanny....
A coach who is notoriously terrible at personnel decisions.

Fantastic idea.

Pass.

Hey, look. A Theo sighting. And just in time for tomorrow's game. Uncanny timing.

The site has become unbearable. But, alas, nothing can cure my boredom this Saturday morning.

What I don't understand is why we would fire them midseason just because of 1 average season last year.

Its not like our offense has been terrible all year either and the defense is finally coming around.

Firing the head coach at this point would be taking the Al Davis / Dany Snyder approach.

Interesting to say the least. I wonder if he could come in midseason and build on what we started vs tearing everything down and starting over. Whatever the case I find it hard to believe he will have success right away, these guys are confused to easily...

I don't know how we would run our offense with Holmgren considering he runs the WCO.

We couldn't just change schemes in a weeks time.

No offense Choc, But I think were in a disaster situation now with Wade.

Sorry to say, I don't see us making the playoffs this year with what we have,so why not start now to make some changes, then ,who knows.

A lot of people here make Danny Snyder look like a paragon of patience and stability...
