Michael Vick has yet to speak publicly about his federal dogfighting indictment. But he has talked to at least one of his Atlanta Falcons teammates about the trouble it has caused him and his team.
"Mike is saddened about the tension this is going to cause the team," wide receiver Joe Horn told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I assured him I support him, the rest of the guys support him and the team supports him. Whether he's guilty or innocent or whether you believe he is, time will tell."
Horn, who signed with the Falcons as a free agent this offseason, also told the Journal-Constitution that suspending Vick and keeping him away from the team would not be good for the quarterback or the Falcons. Vick and three other men were indicted on dogfighting charges by a federal grand jury in Richmond, Va., on Tuesday.
"I think he should be around. The more he's around his teammates playing football might help Michael Vick. I don't think suspending him is going to help him," Horn said, according to the newspaper. "Michael wants to play football. He told me over and over again, 'I know what's going on and I need to be there playing and go through training camp to try and get through this.'"
The NFL reportedly will allow Vick to play while the legal process plays out, and Falcons owner Arthur Blank said the team will carefully consider its options and is "committed to doing the right thing." Sources told ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli that Vick and Blank spoke by phone on Wednesday, and that Vick was apologetic.
While Horn indicated Vick's teammates are supporting him, another group made a public show of its displeasure with Vick and pressure the NFL to suspend him.
