Did anyone notice how Brent did in his debut?

I tried to keep an eye out for him but I mean overall I think the defense did pretty good against the run so hopefully he had something to do with that. I thought McClain was kept pretty free all night to make plays so maybe blockers were kept off him?

i think he did great and filled a role that we needed badly..as far as his play he might have made 2 tackles, but he constantly took up two bodys on offense. He had decent push up the middle when he rushed, overall he looked good Big Strong guy to Clog the middle.....at a bargan

Problem I see there is we're not getting anything off the edge. The best pass rushers for this team are playing DT & there's no consistent threat from either DE spot.

Agreed. Crawford and Mincey seem the most reliable. Finding a pass rushing DE is a must for this defense. A cover corner would be nice as well. Just those 2 positions alone could drastically improve this defense if the players brought in could stay healthy.

Melton is playing pretty well too I think, the funny thing is I think there's like 3 or 4 guys that are pretty decent 3-tech DTs but I'm pretty sure a few of them have played several snaps at DE & that's just not their bag. The best bet for this pass rush is that Brent can continue to force double teams to his side and whoever's in at the 3 can make the most of his one on one opportunities.

Well for a guy that missed 2 yrs I thought he did great. He was credited with 2 tackles and an assist. For comparison ( yes I know positions and roles are different ) carter Melton spencer Crawford all had one tackle .
He is a load to move in the middle

i really dont know anthing about 1 or 3 tech DT, but im with the "we can get by with pressure" people, because the Rush from the edges isnt just gonna happen overnite, its hard to say how much without looking at tape brent contributed, but i can say he helped this defense fill a role yesterday his push in the middle was better then anything we have had all season, besides moving crawford inside not even Melton gets that kinda push he is a finesse guy more then a power guy

On the Oscan sack he blew past his guy and looked quick to me.

That is a pretty good synopsis....

And I'll add this...He looks fresh. Was surprised w/ his staminia. Now....can he make some game changing plays?

For his first time out in 2 years....He looked pretty decent. I'll take it:)

I didn't really know much about the difference between each spot before either but after doing a little research I kind of have a grasp on it. Check this out maybe it'll help http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...gest-differences-in-the-4-3-and-3-4-pass-rush

Bottom line Brent's job as a 1-tech is not gonna be flashy he's suppose to force a double team inside and get a one on one shot for his 3-tech counterpart. He's suppose to hold up against the double team & not lose ground, collapse the pocket so the QB can't step up and free up the LBs to make plays in the run game.

Got doubled several times.

We really need outside rush. Lawrence has been disappointing to me.

I was hoping for more out of Lawrence but then again he's a rookie who sat out most of the year due to injury maybe unrealistic to expect him to be the dominant guy off the edge for this team

From what I saw he was dominant but winded often. Once he gets acclimated to game speed he's going t wreak serious havoc, dude is strong...

and Big i hate the cliche but hes "our poor mans" Vince Wilfork

it really is but it isnt when you trade up for the guy and he basically is a non factor... we lost that tiny battle....so far

Not to bring up an old subject but why would we not have at least given Sam a shot or even Boatright?

The fact that he was released speaks volumes to how bad a pass rusher he is, being that we need an edge rush badly.
