Gotta give CP props..... he laid a pretty good hit on the DB.....

I've got an even more pressing question??? Where are the Commander faithful today? I've read several threads and haven't seen many of them?
It sure will be nice if we beat them in Week 2 -- not to gloat at them but just to not have to put up with the mouthbreathing.

Injuries suck...but, I don't see what the big deal is with Portis...

I mean, can't the great St. Gibbs just "lay hands" on Portis and cure him of all that ails him?

On the other hand, if this were a season ending injury, the RedStinks would just come over here and say that Portis was not the great to begin with, and really was not needed...

We all got their game....

Hey.

I still have complete faith and confidence in the starting offense and defense of my team. The only real worry from Sunday's game is Clinton Portis, and hopefully he's back for the opening game.

Our defense in particular held Cincinatti to -19 yards in the three series they were on the field and registered 2 sacks. Twice the defense bailed the offense out of inopportune turnovers (once by Brunell and once by Collins), knocking the Bengals back and out of field goal range.

As long as we don't turn the ball over often on offense this year, and keep our offensive line healthy, we'll be in good shape.

I won't lie and say missing Portis won't hurt, and that he is able to open up a defense and force coordinators to bring more into the box...where as Betts won't invoke the same kind of fear.

I read this on another board:

Hey gang, its being reported here (Washington DC), that Saunders wanted the offensive line to get more reps, supposedly he is not happy with Oline starters and back ups and that they need more reps with in his system. Gibbs pulled the starters alittle to early fo Saunders liking.

I know this is probally heresay or BS, but from what we all seen on Sunday , I think Saunders has a point.

Thinks are looking good.

Week 2 looks like a no win situation right now.. win or lose.. the claim and partially blamed reason will be a banged up Portis. So it will either be..Portis wasn't 100%, that why we lost or Portis wasn't even 100% and we still won..

Actually I think Betts is the type of back we have problems with.. an aggresive downhill runner who runs with some power to the hole, getting 4-5 yards a carry setting up 2nd and 5, etc..

My thoughts on your D was not that impressive. They showed no depth at all. The first team did do good, but at the same time, they blitzed nearly every down and we all know that coachs are not spending time right now to game plan. Its about evaluting talent at this point. I have no doubts that your d will be good this year, but if they don't get some depth from somewhere, it will be a long season. IMO

It is hard to acquire depth when you overpay your starters to the point you cannot make depth free agent signings and it is compounded when you trade away your entire drafts at the drop of a hat.

Well our OL depth sucks....I'll give you that. We are in big trouble if either of our tackles go down. Right when Collins and the second team OL came in, the pass protection was a joke and run-blocking nearly non-existent. Collins played horribly but he didn't have that much to work with either.

And when Cincinatti came on a blitz the play Brunell through the interception, it would have been a sack.

I don't expect us to light up the scoreboard at the beginning of the year. The offense is going to have kinks to work out...and until that happens the defense is going to have to play lights out...particularly if Portis isn't back for the start of the season.

So yeah even the first stringer linemen aren't at the form they were at the end of last season. Fortunately the season start for us is 4 weeks from today and alot gets ironed out.

We still had 6 sacks for the game...so our reserve linemen and linebackers aren't bad and were able to muster 4 without the starters in there. Our reserve secondary however was another story.

I have to disagree. I happen to think that the redkskins are going to have a top 3 defense this season.

I only see carolina and possibly chicago as better.

ONe side note though, the skins keep talking about this -19 yards, had palmer been healthy and the team prepared for the constant safety and corner blitzing things would have been different.

It is going to be very hard for teams to move the ball on washington and it is going to be equally as hard to stop cincy.

I dont think yesterday meant anything except the skins had some unfortunate injuries.

Portis should be smarter than this given that he is a vet. You have to know the situation and know that it is preseason.

Portis has no one to blame but himself.

That is what I don't understand. If he felt the preseason was so "worthless" and he "shouldn't be in there", why on earth was he trying to take Keiwan Ratliff's head off resulting in his shoulder being driven into the ground?

Oh wait. I forget the inevitable "he is a competitor" comment from the Burgundy and Gold Brainless. Well, my answer is competitors don't whine after they get hurt.

I love how the Washington Post is blaming the NFL and TV revenues for this injury. I am certain that Joe Gibbs wrote the article, after all, he is the "master of all causality".

Suppose preseason was indeed cut down to 2 games. It still doesn't matter if a bonehead decides that he wants to take off another player's head, while hurting only himself.

Everyone is a victim these days. In fact, the Commanders and their pathetic fans specialize in it. It is the referees that have been responsible for every loss in the past two seasons. Why not graduate to injuries as well?

That's it right there. It was Portis' own stupidity that caused the injury, not the fact he was playing when he was. I don't believe Gibbs himself buys the logic.

It is not like he got hurt running the ball, he got hurt trying to be a hero, in a game he supposedly thought he shouldn't be playing in.

If I were incredibly dumb like he was in making that type of tackle, I would manufacture some sort of excuse as well, so maybe he isn't completely ignorant.

Well this was the 1st pre-season game for the skins and Portis was hurt in this game. So if we go to 2 pre-season games how does that change anything other than the fact he would have 2 less weeks to recover for the start of the reg season.
