Did Garrett Make Adjustments After Washington?

I remember Brian Orakpo saying the Commanders learned something on film when watching the Cowboys-Packers game about how to shut down the Cowboys offense. He said the Packers exposed them. Then the Commanders came out and shut us down.

Then against the Raiders, the Cowboys were able to put up some points again. So I was wondering if Garrett changed anything up, if the Cowboys just executed better, or if the Raiders didn't have the personnel to copy the Packers or Commanders game plan.

Yes, i think he did, with Dan Reeves & Jimmy Johnson giving him some pointers!

Good to hear he's willing to learn from others.

It seemed like he was moving wide receivers around more, but maybe that was just my imagination.

It looked like there were adjustments made. More short passes that gave our guys a chance to run after the catch as opposed to long developing routes we've been seeing before.

Look back at the routes that Witten ran against the Raiders. They are far different than anything from earlier in the year.

I think there were a few adjustments, but the majority of them will be implemented this coming week.

Also, the Raiders defense is different...they rely on man to man instead of a zone scheme.

I think that was the biggest difference right there.

I do know that Jimmy Johnson spent an hour and a half at practice. Jimmy talked to jason garrett and jerry jones for sure. On one occassion, Jimmy was telling Garrett one of his famous quotes, and J Garrett said i know coach, the team that plays with the least bad plays will win the game.

Dan Reeves was there getting ready for being some announcer on some show that was going to cover the game thursday. Not sure what all dan reeves said, im sure wade talked to jerry jones and wade probably tried to talk to jerry again about dan reeves. Just speculating on that part, but dan reeves was said to talk to several players and watch practice.

The Raiders game seemed more getting back to business and doing what we do best. Run plays, Witten up the seam, drag routes and going deep when the opportunity presents itself.

He started putting Miles Austin in the slot a lot in the raiders game.

It also helps to play the Raiders once in a while.

what?

All broadcasters go watch practice and talk to the players, what else would they talk about on air.

Reeves and johnson had nothing to do with the gameplan.

The difference was the raiders play an ancient man to man scheme and leave their secondary completely vunerable. We exploited it with our talent repeatedly.

Shorter pass routes for WRs.

Plays designed to try and get Miles Austin the ball early.

More commitment to mixing in the running game.

The only thing that saved the Raiders from a monumental beating was the OL penalties and blitz pickups (but blitz pickups were better than GB, Philly, Atl and Wash).

:hammer:

Brace yourself for the Garett sucks threads the next time we face a good defense that mixes in zone, man, and blitz packages and we have to fight for yards and points.

Definitely more a product of the scheme the Raiders use. I promise you that the Giants won't be playing us straight up man to man all game like the Raiders did.

i still think that jimmy johnson and dan reeves gave jason garrett and jerry jones some advice;

I think it's safe to conclude Garrett definitely changes things up and takes 'pointers' from others in the games we win. For the ones we lose, for some reason he goes back to making the same old mistakes and not calling plays well again. It's really weird.

They have a pretty good defense. Not to mention the best corner in the game. Miles burned him more than once.

I noticed a few more play action calls being used, we need to make sure to take advantage of our run game like that.

There have been a few good offenses so far this season unable to beat that archaic defense.
