Did the refs give us this game?

During at least tow of our TD drives the Chargers had stopped us on 3rd down but penalties on them kept those drives alive for us. One could argue (and allow me to play devil's advocate here for the sake of discussion) that if not for the refs making quetionnable calls against the Chargers they would have won that game, because we would be punting instead of marching down to score TDs. Your thoughts?

If they were indeed questionable... they weren't...

Even Marty argued one until he saw the replay... he then went over and told the ref it was a good call...

No question when they have 12 on the field, smash our QB in the face, and hog tie our receiver 10 yds down the field.

Each penalty was the correct call........First time in a long time we had some go our way. The refs threw a few against us as well. I thought the refs did a real fine job.

I question the Horse Collar non call on Witten

I thought the refs did a fine job. The calls I saw were dead on. Even the ones we got.

That was pretty blatant! I bet if a certain player with a #31 on his jersey and a star on his helmet did the same thing it would have caused a penalty. :(

It's the Roy Williams rule. It won't be called on anyone else!

Agreed. If that wasn't a horse collar than what the heck is? You know they'll be all over Roy though the second he even touches somebody from behind.

I generally agree, however the "smash our QB in the face" penalty was hardly a smash. That one to me looked like it could go either way.

By the way, I'm not arguing that the refs gave us the game but penalties did keep some of our drives alive. The difference in the game really came down to defense because we held them to 3 points instead of 7 on their last scoring drive and in the end shut them down 4 times on 1st-4th and gaol.

The point here is that no matter what is argued about the refs, the Chargers still had 1st and goal with eonugh time to score a TD for the win. And when it came to it, they got shut down. I posted this thread because someone and I got into an argument about this where he said the refs gave us the game. But when I pointed out how the Chargers got shut down in the end with destiny in their hands he gave up his argument.

The personal foul gave us a first down on our own 25. Yep, the refs gave us that touchdown, since it was so easy to go the other 75 yards to the end zone.

I noticed a few across the league yesterday that ended up being non-calls. I think they're trying not to be too indiscriminate in calling it, since there were planty of people that were none too happy about the rule being put in place to begin with.

The silly thing is, if it's defined as being pulled down by the pads, not the jersey, why even bother with it? Being pulled down by the jersey can produce the same result, although it may be viewed as being more incidental than latching onto a player's pads.

I don't think the ref missed that call. The horse-collar penalty is when the defender grabs the back-neck portion of the shoulder pad to bring down the offensive player. On that play the defender grabbed onto Witten's jersey just underneath that area of the shoulder pad. The defebder never grapbbed the shoulder pad; therefore the right non-call was made.

Hey, I'm just trying to be fair!

To be perfectly honest....I don't think the refs know how to call it. The rule is written very vague.......shoot!!!! Let's face it!!!!! it's a stupid rule.
