You got to be kidding?????

Hitchens makes one play @ the goalline...and it's "All hail Hitchins!!!!"

Got news for you...was specifically watching him a lot last night. And it wasn't good. He was constantly filling the wrong gap on running plays...getting lost in coverage. Guy has a long way to go....

After all he is a rookie so those mistakes he can clean up. I was more worried about him looking slow

I thought Hitchens was good and bad. I liked that he looked physical at certain points in the game but he was clearly lost. He looked much better, Ithought, when he moved outside. He's got a long way to go if he ends up in the Middle IMO.

He's going to need time but that's what the book on him was to begin with. He will need to be developed. The key for him will be showing improvement in recognition and understanding his scheme responsibilities. I'm not worried about his ability to make tackles. He's shown he can do that throughout his career at Iowa.

Can he play in our scheme and can he develop, those are the things that are important for him to show IMO.

The defense...eh. We had 3 starters in the game to start so I have zero opinion on the defense other than if the walking wounded remain the walking wounded all year long and a ton of those guys play meaningful minutes then this defense will be every bit as bad as last year.

But without seeing hardly any starters, at all, on defense I simply have no real opinion on the defense at this time after last night. I will say that Hitchen's wasn't all world, or anything, but he certainly wasn't terrible like some on here are claiming. They have no choice but to claim that though because they've made it clear all along that he's got no chance. So if he shows even the slightest bit of ability then they're going to be upset that they weren't correct.

That said it wasn't like the guy amazed last night. He played OK and that's what I'd expect from a rookie out there in his first live NFL action.

I was pleased with the first team O-Line and the running game. I definitely liked what I saw in that area and I was pleasantly surprised by how accurate Weeden seemed to be. I don't feel comfortable if he has to start any games yet, well not real comfortable, but I feel a tad bit better after last night.

Williams looked pretty good last night too, especially without Witten and Bryant in there to take any attention away. I really love that pick last year. I think Bryant and Williams can be a really dangerous duo this year.

I agree about Williams.

I think Williams was a great pick for us and think he will only get better. I can't wait to see Dez being moved around this year and coming out of the slot. With the way the starters on the oline played last night and the running game did, I think this offense will be top 10, if not top five if we can get our penalties in check.

I was also impressed with Street last night. He made a few catches and really showed that he belongs out there. I think we got a steal with that guy and look forward to seeing what he can contribute when he gets his chances this year.

The defense was missing alot of guys and to me, thats the problem. It seems like every year we have half of our starters on that side of the ball out the majority of camp and the preseason.

People can put off the play of the defense last night and say that they were missing alot of starters, but at the same time these guys need to get ready for the season and instead they are nursing the same injuries they seem to never get over. I know injuries are going to happen and it's a part of the game, but it seems like it goes farther than that with this team.

Hitch played very well. He's a rook, this is his first NFL test and he will get better. The guy is smart and he's willing and able from what we can tell from his background.

While some people will get out their anointing oil when a player makes one play, there are those that will want to show a player the road if he makes one bad play regardless of what else he does.

Was I disappointed in the play of the defense last night? Very! At the same time when we process the fact that these rookies were only in their first PRESEASON game and have a lot to learn but will/should continue to develop and adjust, then I'm not ready to write off any of the rookies now. They have a lot to digest and to learn and they have only received hours of training camp even though some have had the benefit of the off season meetings but without actual game type contact. You can learn a lot that way but simulation of the actual game is not sufficient. We will all be better informed in another 3 or 4 weeks.

They looked fast and they look good for the first per-season game. Did Bruce Carter make the three of the first 5 tackles?

Oh and how about that goal line stand play by Anthony Hitchens? What a scrub right?

Not sure if serious about Carter........

Agree...he looked completely lost when he was in the middle....better on the outside. I question if he has the speed to cover though.

I had the same take on Hitchins. There was good and bad, and it's not surprising at all given that it was a rookie in his first preseason action. I thought he was aggressive and very active, which was good, but it got him in trouble at times. He filled the wrong holes and took himself out of plays at times, including the long run on the second possession.

It's going to take some time with him. But I liked the aggressiveness and it looks like there's something there to work with.

I agree. He was slow and always a step behind. He needs time just not ready yet

McClain's didn't play. I didn't realize how many guys didn't play. I'll wait to pass judgement until next week. When everyone in there

Even after that, you still have to grade them on a slight curve. This will be a totally new team on D .... basically. It's going to take them about 6 games before I can tell if they know what they're doing.

Devin Street showed why he was drafted as well. He's got some work to do but, I really like his rounded skill set.

Bruce Carter was in position in his zone on each play he made. Crawford is going to be a good one for us.

Hitchens played well but still has a lot of development left. He looked a little tentative on some plays instead of attacking. But he looks like he belongs. He's a lot bigger than I thought too.
