First, I agree with most of you guys, over the issue about the Cowboys going 13-3 and wade phillips saying, well we did win 13-3, so we did actually win a playoff game with the bye, etc. Now, to me, thats the wrong attitude, maybe why wade phillips failed in buffalo, he did get his teams to playoffs and improve each first 2 years there. Yet, each playoff game he was in as a head coach he lost. Why.
However, a friend of mine, put it to me this way, when you are critical of a player or a coach, and you keep harping on him, he will get defensive. Like I mentioned to my friend, we all know how the Cowboys have fallen flat in december and when they are in the playoffs, seems like no fire, heart is there. So, how are you going to change that Wade Phillips.
Again, my friend said, your pointing fingers, etc, best way maybe to use something in your life, like his was when he coached football and played, they were winning successfully, but when they got to the playoffs, the head coach changed what they were doing, and went with something different. Of course, then our rhythm fell off, and guys that hadnt been prepared during the season, when called upon, they werent ready. Then our team failed to win.
That is similar to what happened to Dallas last year, as you all know, everyone kept calling for Barber to get the ball 24/7, when he did, he ran out of gas in the 2nd half against the Giants. Along with the game against the Commanders as you all remember, Tony Romo said we held things back, well our rhythm since the Green Bay game recessed and recessed.
So, I was thinking, maybe some of you guys have a similar story where you coached or played, and you changed styles at end of year, didnt play your backups like you should have (in comparrison the Giants played their backups all year long as example and they played them to their strenghts, not try to fit them into what T O or Crayton or someone else was doing). That way, if someone gets this to the media and in a round about way gets to Wade Phillips, someone telling their own story of how they failed with similar theology plays etc, that Wade Phillips can relate to without feeling threatened and say to himself, you know, thats what has happened to me, now how can i change that so that doesnt happen again.
