Well it's that time of year for DirecTV to issue their NFL Sunday Ticket bill notices. I was hoping that this year we could afford to get the games in HD, however they jacked up their rates again to 6 payments of $44.99/month ($270) for current customers and 5 payments of $59.99/month ($300) for new customers.
Has anyone had any success in negotiating with DirecTV to lower the cost? We go thru this crap every year and some of you have been successful...Thanks and let me know!! :bang2: :bang2:

You don't negotiate. You just tell them you're going to have to cancel, and not just Sunday Ticket, but maybe your entire service. Just tell them you really can't afford it at that price right now.

I had decided to cancel for the first time in 10 years. So I called to do so and got the following to stay.

1. Free Superfan
2. $10 credit on my bill for the next 12 months
3. Showtime free for 6 months

Does it really matter? You have such animosity towards DTV and the NFL Ticket. This isn't the 1st time Ive seen you post this regarding the NFL Ticket.

Really, some of us acually don't mind the cost. Some of us understand breaking that up over 16 games what we are paying.

About $19.00/Game

I will pay that all day to enjoy seeing the Cowboys each Sunday from my very private and extremely comfortable living room.

I occasionally venture forth and find a Sports Bar to watch the game. These experience have been less than fun. The atmosphere is obnoxious and extremely loud to where you can't enjoy the game.

To me...

The NFL Ticket is the be all end all in Sports Programming.

I even paid more and picked up the Super Fan option this year. So now when my office calls I can still catch the game live/streaming on my iPhone.

Thank you D-TV. :D

I'd love to, but I live in Upstate New York now...full of Giants, Bills, Jets, Pats and unfortunately there are Eagles fans here as well!! It's the only reason I bought my DirecTV system 10 yrs ago and I'm now quite proud of my "Man Cave" at the casa.

You can negotiate w/ DTV. You have to be certain that you will quit them though if they call your bluff.

I had a friend do this about a week or so back. He called up and said it was to expensive and that he was thinking of quitting. The rep pretty much called him on it and said he could discontinue the service at anytime.

He said he needed some time to think about it and never called back.

DTV is getting wise to all of the net chatter on making threats about quitting.

Same thing here. I told them FIOS was offering a really nice bundle to move my TV service and that the only reason I had DTV was for Sunday Ticket, which was getting harder to justify. They gave me basically the same deal.

I hate having to call every year to do it, but I guess it's the gaem you have to play.

When you call into the automated system say 'Cancel'. Then when you get an agent calmly and reasonably explain to them that the cost is too much to justify and ask what they can do to help. If you like what they offer, go for it. If not, let them know and ask if they can do more. Don't be afraid to ask for a supervisor. Don't be rude though, be polite but firm. It helps if you've been a longtime customer.

No, it really doesn't matter. I'm just not the big fan of DTV that I once was. I had their service for 5 years. I loved it but decided it just wasn't worth it. I usually get a good number of games in my area and go to the sports bar for the 3 or 4 other games.

I used the could not afford approach to get the deal I have. When I said I wanted to cancel they said I would have to pay early termination fee.

I decided to cancel, planned on giving u-verse a shot. Cancelled a month in advance and they called everynight until they finally reached me. Had no intentions of staying but after being offered $240 credit, 20 off my bill for 12 months and the Sunday ticket I couldn't refuse. Win!

The only thing I've gotten is the free upgrade to HD, which I believe they call the "Superfan" package.

Personally I don't see how the DirecTV monopoly is legal. When baseball tried to do the same thing 2-3 years ago, Congress had a fit and pretty much made it clear that they weren't going to allow it.

I mean, I don't really care one way or the other. I have been perfectly happy with DirecTV once they upped their HD package about 2 years ago and allowed local games to be shown in HD.

Well, OK this is what I got. $20.00 off my base package for 6 months, free HD service for 12 months and free Superfan. The total price for the package is still more than what we are used to, so we'll see if this will work for us. Thanks for all your replys, and I'll talk at y'all later.

Yea, I'm not sure how they are able to continue to increase their prices year after year the way that they do. If our utility or other monthly services would go up the same as DTV's, we wouldn't be able to afford anything. That's why in this case regulation works. At least they are willing to work with their customers...but it's still alot of money. I understand that the NFL license agreement is up for bid again soon...don't know if that a good thing or not!
