Here is my recap:
GAC: Ditka is down in Miami. What are you thoughts on Miami? How does it compare to your experience back when you were coaching?
Ditka: It's incredible. Lots of celebrities here in Miami down here on celebrity row. They did a nice job. Building like crazy down here in Miami.
[They let Ditka pimp whatever foundation he is pimping now. Something about ex-players. I'll spare everyone since you don't care about it.]
GAC: One of your ex-players Mike Singletary just interviewed with Jerry Jones for 8 hours. Before we talk about Mike, do we make too much about the fact he hasn't been a coordinator?
Ditka: Football coaching is about understanding and relating to people. Everyone knows Xs and Os. We all played and understand the Xs and Os. Some people are great at them like Tom Landry. But everyone knows them enough to coach. It doesn't matter whether you been a coordinator. You just have to be able to relate people. You have to be able to motivate people.
I have known Mike for lots of years. If he doesn't get that job, he will get another job. He will be a good coach.
GAC: Why did he stay out of football for 10 years?
Ditka: He raised his family. He is a spiritual guy. Raised 7 kids. I talked to him and told him to get into it. He has plenty of experience. He is ready for the job. He can do the job.
GAC: Everyone thought it was a Rooney Rule, but it lasted 8 hours.
Ditka: (Some joking about being with Jerry for 8 hours).
That's all.
