DL 2018 vs 2019

Yep, and you’re still wrong. It only takes one time to end a season. That’s why once is one too many and that makes it a weakness. If it wasn’t a weakness, it wouldn’t have happened. Now the conversation is over and common sense has prevailed.
I will "like" the post from Cowboys22. Not because I agree with him, I rarely do, but because he has a completely different approach from my own. I respect his desire for continuous improvement. It's that type of drive and determination that makes teams great. That being said, our defense is light years better than we've seen in the past. I have a hard time arguing for change when I see how far we've come. The FO has built through the draft and Rod M and Chris R and staff have turned this defense around. To C22s point, the Rams ran all over us in the playoffs, no question about it. But, let's be honest, our offense has struggled, to put it lightly, until the end of games. I love Dak, but he and the offense put way too much pressure on our defense because they can't move the ball consistently. Too me, that's what has to change. For the record, I think it will this year.

I completely agree about the offense hurting the defense and needing to control the ball more. That would help this D immensely. I’m not necessarily arguing for change with the defense as much as I’m advocating for the addition of a run stuffing DT to rotate in on obvious running situations. I recognize how much better the D has been but I just don’t get the adversion to a big DT that can’t be moved out leaving a huge hole right up the gut on 1st downs, short yardage, and goal line situations. I think they could be a dominate D with this simple addition.

That’s where we are different. I don’t care what they did all year. I care about the end results and in the end they couldn’t stop the run. When it mattered the most, they were either outcoached or proved to be deficient at stopping the run. Therefore, I want it fixed. They don’t need 5 penetrating DTs who can’t stop short yardage plays or hold up in the playoffs. You have to be strong up the middle and it’s starts with your DTs. You can’t give the other team five yards on every carry before the RB is even touched in the playoffs and think all is well because you did better during the season. Other coaches coach and gameplan differently in the playoffs when everything is on the line. The good ones will mercilessly attack your weaknesses and with no run stuffing DTs we are simply handing them an easy target that will be the team’s demise every year if not addressed.
Dude, The Rams had a pulling guard and it was LVE who couldnt shed his block to make the tackle time after time. I blame the LBs coach as well as Marinelli. Sure the Cowboys could use a big powerful DT but thats not the complete answer as to what went wrong!

I do agree about it taking just one time to end a season but I also feel this coaching staffs inability to recognize whats going on and adjust during the game is one of the weakness also. Weve seen this happen wayy too often on the offensive side of the ball and its happening more on the defensive side too. The Commanders game last season with Peterson gashing the Cowboys, The Colts and then finally the Rams.

I think we are a tad better and that good..lets hope Dlaw doesnt miss any time given he waited on surgery..that woul anger me ..35 mil for short year NFNWAY

Exactly! I DESPISE players that intentionally delay surgeries to gain leverage in contract negoiations, then end up missing time. I would think (hope) Dallas included playing time incentives in that big, fat deal.

You can never count on anyone being better than last year. They could get hurt or regress or both. The biggest problem with the D is they have yet to address the inability to stop the run in the playoffs. They need run stuffing DTs for 1st and 2nd down, goalline, and other short yardage situations. If they continue to ignore it, they will get gashed in the playoffs again and have only their stupidity and hubris to blame.
The Rams game was not on the players. It was:
1. We set our defense prior to the OL setting. The OC was calling plays in after he saw our defense. He was basically playing Madden.
2. The Rams, per their players, picked up “tells” on our DL to the direction/action they would take.
3. With a set formation and tells to call plays against you can have a multi 100 yard rb.

This draft is set up for 2 DT’s for Dallas just by the talent distribution. Hopefully a real big one and real quick one.

If any of that is actually true and I’m not doubting you at all, then the entire coaching staff should be fired. That should have lasted all of one series before they realized it and adjusted. If our staff allowed that and did nothing then everything else is useless. You can’t win anything with stupid and stubborn coaching.

just like a thought. no backup for what you type. Gregory is no scub vs the run. But he's shown to be about avg vs the run in the NFL. I think most of that is because the guy just hasnt been available to get exp. If he could just stay on the field then he could be better then Quinn but right now he's nowhere near the overall DE Quinn is. Quinn doesnt need to come off the field. And there was a reason Crawford played running downs and it had nothing to do with Marinelli didnt want to wear him out lol.

When I heard other NFL players who are broadcasting talk about the Dallas Cowboys it's well known Garrett doesn't scheme from week to week when they play other teams. He uses the idea of were gonna run are plays and we're not changing anything. I'm sure some if this has rubbed off on the defense too. That's lazy coaching to me. The Cowboys win on talent but get punched in the mouth when they meet equal talent.

Then what happened? They ran into a smart coach that identified a glaring weakness and attacked it mercilessly. That’s what happens in the playoffs and that’s why it needs to be fixed.

This is what I think happened as well. It wasn't just by chance that it happened to be a bad game, the Rams saw something. Dallas was embarrassed on the ground that game. Other teams will be looking at what they did.

Just watch the Saints and especially the Patriots, they didn’t set their defenses until AFTER the Rams set.
Games the coaches can’t call the play in late, the Rams and their QB are very average.
I just went back and watched the Saints v Rams, it’s clear the Saints weren’t setting until late and the frustration with Goff

On paper they should be better.

1. Quinn IMO is better than Gregory.
2. It’s logical to assume improvement from Armstrong in his 2nd year.
3. Like him or not, Taco was legitimately injured for at least half of the season.
4. Tank was limited due to bum shoulder all season.
5. If Covington isn’t leaps better than Carun Reid, heaven help us.
6. Likely draft addition in the first 4 rounds.

The rest is a wash. Granted it’s only April, so a lot can happen before Game 1.

This is what was happening. Precisely.
