I agree, but you would like to see some flashes of raw talent in there.

He got pancaked one one yesterday, but there are two areas of his game that are pretty good. 1 - he really seems to understand stunts and twists. Like just knowing he is going to do it makes him a little faster. 2 - he is far, far better against the run than I imagined he would be. He may not be getting the pass rush, but when they run his way he stonewalls. I never saw that side of him at Boise but big credit for it.

Give this dude a year. Nobody should've expected anything of him once he got hurt in the preseason and missed half of the regular season. If he still looks like this next year then panic, but not now.

I just hope he doesn't make us conservative in attacking a pass rusher in free agency. I still do think we need a JPP for a few years until-hopefully D law gets groomed.

JPP has one double digit sack season to his credit.
He likely gets a second this year but he isn't worth bidding on at more than mid-level DE money. 6-7Mil PY

We badly need pass rush improvements but we also can't have another Carr situation.
We have too much young talent to pay shortly to overpay anyone like they are a star when they are mediocre.

I am actually on board the sign Hardy bus. Yes, he's a mental case but so are many great pass rushers.
Hardy is 26 and has 27 sacks in his last 32 games.
He's also durable having missed only two games prior to suspension for being a nutcase.
Hardy likely HAS to sign a make good deal.
Means we can use him for a couple seasons to bridge to our draft picks maturing while he uses the Cowboys brand name to re-build his rep and resume.

The Giants are very likely to resign JPP.
They've added no young pass rushers to step in for him and badly rely on him on a team with very few young building blocks.

He played a significant number of snaps yesterday. It looked like he played every other series. I was watching him exclusively on a lot of drives and he just doesn't seem to have much.

1. He looks really small. I think he is way too undersized for this defense.
2. He doesn't seem to have any burst. He may still have a lingering injury, so I guess we have to wait an see here, but I am most concerned about his lack of anticipation of the snap count. He looks like he's half a step behind.
3. He doesn't seem to have a go to pass rushing move. Obviously, he is more of a speed guy, but I just didn't see anything. He was easily absorbed into the blocker, and a lot of times, never got his arms extended when engaging.

He's a rookie, let's see what he's like next year. He's still growing.

Man, I really wasn't on the Hardy wagon until this post and perspective. Now i'm leaning toward him being the ONLY option.

Has there been any decision on his status for next year?

Even then I'm totally on the wait and see train with Lawrence, the Cowboys should still behave like he can't play though. I really hope they don't go into the offseason with the mindset that they're sure he's gonna turn into something. Draft a DE with a high pick if there's one there and maybe sign an FA DE (and not a Jeremy Mincey type, no offense to him though because he really plays hard).

I will say this - the DEs this game did a really good job of containing the edge. Rather than try to blow past and allow Sanchez to side step, they held the wall so that when the middle pressure came in, the QB was stuck. That was far and away the best they have looked in a while.

This
We needed to contain McCoy this game
Give him time

given the nature of his injury he was probably able to do a lot of upper body strength work with some core even but very little speed/agility stuff.

the other thing is about 90% of getting sacks is savvy and technique versus specific guys.
you learn what troubles each guy and how to attack various moves to make them work for you.

Ware had 8 sacks as a rookie but that guy is an all-time great the likes of we will probably not see again in a cowboys uniform in our lifetime.

After the Panthers owner, Richardson, was sobbing on national television talking about domestic violence, I would be highly shocked if he brought Hardy back. It would be mighty contradictory from his end!

Give me hardy and suh
Resign Dez
Draft smart
Cut Carr

I would call that a successful off season :D

I don't mean from the Panther's perspective. I mean from the league office.

this.

the lack of offseason is a legitimate excuse. but for a guy you traded a premium pick for, he should have flashed at least once in the last few games. he hasn't. that is concerning.

On a bootleg away from him he got knocked down got back up and caught up with Selvie to force Sanchez to throw the ball away at the sideline. The athleticism is there but like others have said missing training camp and coming back from a chest injury haven't helped.

Suh is a non-starter. --in discussion not participation.
He will get franchised or paid a mint.
DTs as good as he is are tremendously overpaid.
He's going to want Dez type money to play DT.

He probably ends up in Washington or for some bottom feeder with a zillion bucks in cap cash.
He has near zero shot to come to Dallas.

Suh is an amazing player, but not what Dallas needs to go pay for right now.

He looks very tentative to me. Like he doesn't trust that he knows what he should do.

Of course you should expect something from an early second round pick. He has to show just a glimpse of talent. And he's not really doing that.

I'm perfectly fine spending a first round pick on a weak side rusher, if this dude can't help himself to make an impression in the last 2-6 games.

I am willing to write off this season. one he got injured in preseason, didn't get any practice and came back in the middle of the season to play in one of the most difficult positions on the defense. he has sound fundamentals but his too slow to react because the game is too fast for him.
