Tyron Smith has developed into one of the cornerstones of the Cowboys offensive line in his four years in the league. Here are 10 things you might not know about the two-time Pro Bowler.

1. Five-star recruit

Considered a five-star recruit and described as “an amazing right tackle prospect” by Rivals.com, Smith was ranked as the No. 6 offensive tackle prospect. Scout.com listed him as the No. 1 offensive tackle prospect in the nation. In 2010, Smith won the Morris Trophy award as the Pac 10 conference’s top offensive lineman.

2. Making Cowboys draft history

The Cowboys drafted Smith ninth overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. He was the first offensive lineman drafted in the first round by the Cowboys since Jerry Jones bought the team in 1989, and the highest in franchise history since John Niland in 1966.

Wonder if he is going to try and beat LAs 700

I hope not. I think LA became muscle bound. He didn't need to get much stronger if at all from his second year. He needed to keep all that athleticism, speed and mobility. He's still in the HOF but I think he should be viewed as the greatest OL of all time without any argument at all. He's still in the top 25 for sure and probably top 10. Maybe he's even #1. But he should be in a class all by himself IMO.

It's harder to bench press with long arms.

Tyron lifting 600 is approaching the same level of impressiveness as LA lifting 700 considering that Tyron's arm length is 36-3/8" and LA's was about 33".

That's an excellent point.

And to think this guy is only 24, and won't be 25 until close to the end of this season! If he's willing and able, he'll be a Pro Bowler for another decade (hopefully with us until the end).

Considering Tyron is only 24, he has a decent shot at beating LA's bench. Frederick said Tyron benches "between 6-700", so whether that's closer to 600 or 700, he's already close.

Gonna get a lot of hate for this, but that wasn't a legit 700 lb bench by LA anyway. Obviously an insane amount of weight, but the spotter was clearly helping.

Not sure how you can say "clearly." From the camera angle any help was not clear.

Anyway you slice it, whether it's 600 lbs. or more, that an absurd amount of weight to bench press. It requires an insane amount of strength to even come anywhere close to that level. One look at Tyron tells you just about all you need to know about his physical fitness and strength. What's more, he's still a young pup.
