What Dez does on the sidelines isn't passion it's anger and frustration. He uses "passion" as the excuse for every tirade. When he and Witten got into it on the sidelines a few years ago he claimed he wasn't angry it was just passion.
Dez is in denial about his anger issues which required anger management. What Dez does takes away from his game even Jerry said that he wishes Dez would use some of that energy he displays on the sidelines and save it for the field. The media jumps on Dez for these so called displays of "passion" because the Cowboys aren't winning games and he doesn't play well when he's stomping around frustrated. The team has only had one winning/playoff season in 6 years with Dez. Irvin outbursts could be looked at as passion because the Cowboys were winning and he was emotional practically every week.
What Irvin did didn't take away from his play on the field it helped him play better. No so with Dez who only gets animated when he's being shutdown. You see no passion/frustration from Dez when he's having a big game you only see it when he's being contained. The more worked up he gets the worse he plays. He starts dropping balls and wears himself out on the sidelines. There was one game where he was ranting and raving on the sidelines due to obvious frustration and the next thing you know he's being taken to the locker room for an IV. Dez needs to calm down, all these sideline antics do is cause him to lose his focus.
