Andre Gurode: It's not Tony's fault

Andre Gurode sat at his locker Monday, answering questions about what went right and wrong in Sunday's loss to New York, and he also defended his quarterback, Tony Romo.

After the game, Romo heaped the blame on himself with three interceptions that led to 21 Giants' points. It was what a quarterback does and Romo was accepting responsibility, but Gurode did not want Romo to take the full burden.

"That's completely wrong," Gurode said, "and I'm going to address that. It's not Tony's fault at all. He cannot take complete blame for a game that a team plays. We have his back. He has our back. We're not going to allow him to take full blame for this game. We're going to strand up, play well next week and hopefully get a victory."

Even though Gurode didn't think Romo should shoulder all of the blame, he said it spoke to Romo's character that he would.

"He takes a lot of things personally," Gurode said. "I know you guys don't see it from our perspective, but h e takes a lot of things he does wrong very, very hard. I can't just imagine how he felt last night when he went home. You see the guy today, pat him on the back and say, 'Hey, we're going to correct our mistakes and get better.'"

Bradie James: Now is time to bounce back

The general feeling coming out of the locker room Monday was one of unity. There were no fingers being pointed. Instead players continued to take the blame for what happened Sunday.

It's the accountability approach Wade Phillips and the players have preached since the end of last season.

"This is where we are right now coming through the second game of the season," linebacker Bradie James said. "It's an adverse situation. It's time to bounce back and pick ourselves up because it's a marathon, not a sprint. It'll be a shame if we fall apart right now."

Twice last year the Cowboys lost back to back games. One stretch came in Tony Romo's absence from a fractured pinky finger. The other came at the end of last year when they lost to Baltimore and Philadelphia.

Can this team rebound?

Yea but only a blind man can blame Romo for solely losing. The running game and o-line get passes. The defensive line gets a pass for the 1st half. But everyone else? They all lost this.

I'd say talk is cheap but our O line never speaks so maybe that's a good sign

Really good quotes from Gurode.
I like it too. This loss could be good for this team and NO I am not saying I am glad we lost last night. I think if we are sitting here at 2-0 everybody is saying we are back and the team to beat in the NFC, blah blah. Now we are back to being pushed out of the limelight again. Everyone will be talking about the Giants, Jets, Saints. This loss could turn out to be a motivating factor for this team the rest of the year. Now had this loss occurred in December then I would probably not be saying this but early in the season there is still time to recover. To me this is going to show the character of this team. I have seen teams start out 0-2 or a bad loss early in the season and go on to great things so I want to see how this team responds to this loss.

A win is a win, Mikey, because if they lost, then you have more days like this.

And if they'd won this game, but alot a so-called game later in the season, this game would've been forgotten and there would still be cries of "Tony can't win the big game."

Yeah, Mike it actually is. It's a damned ****ing shame you don't realize that.

Excuse my rant. I expect this of the DCC trolls, not you.

Being 4-1 is a pretty big deal if you ask me.

It puts you in position to be in contention in November and December.

<3 Gurode, and our entire team. It would be very easy to start pointing fingers today.

well let's see: line does not block and he's pressured, receiver runs wrong route, coaches are oblivious and he's misinformed on his reads

Even if they were all his fault and I agree they were, right now Romo has his teammates willing to back him and I would say he needs that consider he is not going to get it any where else. How this team hangs together after a rough loss is critical. Fans can afford to finger points teams can't

Reading really isn't that hard.

it's not the reading that tends to be the issue, but the selective enforcement of reality.

i finally watched the movie "wolverine" over the weekend. ugh. i missed top chief for that? but there was 1 line in there that made pefect to me.

you know what happens when you go looking for blood?
you find it.

same holds true for people excuse shopping. doesn't matter what is real and what is not, it's more how much time they have to think about it x how much they hate a given player / personal agendas.

it's a very odd forumla for some, i know.

I am sure he doesn’t mean that. Just because you are over the loss doesn’t mean everyone else is. It’s barely Monday afternoon. At least give people till Tuesday.
