He's unconvinced that Bob changed the game? So I guess all the defensive players, and coaches, who played against him, who credit the fact that defenses had to come up with a brand new way (The zone) to try and cover him were just saying that for the sake of it sounding good?

A lot of guys play long enough and in the right system to put up big #s over the course of 13-15 years. I think of Chris Carter (much like Art Monk), who will get in the next year or two. A fine player, but never elite. Because he has bigger #s, people think he's a shoo-in, while an elite player like Hayes doesn't get in.

It's pretty much made the HOF irrelevant to me.

What they really need to do is remove the north east coast monopoly of sports journalists. They all pretty much hate Dallas simply because of Texas. Its political elitism infecting football.

My vote is to remove journalists completely from the process and replace them with a panel of hall of famers, ex-coaches and ex-sports contributers (i.e. commissioners, general managers, etc.) If the bias is going to be inserted into the process, allow it to come from those who were a part of the game at least. Just my two cents.

Hayes still ranks 30th in career receiving TDs with his 71(still a team record). I believe when he retired he was ranked 8th in TD receptions. At that time no one had more than 100 receiving TDs, so it was a very impressive 71.

The rules changes and evolution of the game(an evolution that he is a part of) is what has propelled the increase in the number of receiving TDs a player gets now a days and the records put up. Still ranking 30th after all these years of football is an impressive feat.

Announcement will be made at 12 noon CT on NFLN. There may be an announcement regarding the preliminary vote when they whittle it down to just a few. There are 17 now but the final vote will have only about 10 to vote on.
