The newest member of our Cowboys crew, Gerry Fraley, notes this off a conference call this morning. Atlanta coach Mike Smith danced around the issue of whether running back Michael Turner has developed a fumbling problem.
Turner and Houston's Steve Slaton are tied for the league lead in fumbles this season with four. Turner has six fumbles in his last 10 regular-season games.
Smith said the fumbles are an offense-wide issue and not solely Turner's fault.
``It's not just the guy carrying the ball,'' Smith said. ``It's the guys blocking. When somebody comes in and hits the ball-carrier, we have somebody who was responsible to block that guy. We've got to do a better job as a complete unit. It's something we have talked about.''
Turner has not run as well this season, his second with the Falcons. He has averaged 3.5 yards per carry, a full yard below last season's average.
