After Miles Austin sat out the preseason finale to rest a tight hamstring, Wade Phillips told reporters the receiver was "fine."
Well, Austin isn't practicing a few days later.
Austin, who sat out four games last season due to knee injury, also had hamstring problems during the off-season. He missed most of OTAs and all of the minicamp due to a sore hamstring, although the Cowboys said at the time that his absence was a precautionary measure.
The Cowboys also described WR Sam Hurd's absence due to a sore quad the last couple of weeks as a precautionary measure. Hurd declared his health "better than good" last week and is dressed out today.
FB Deon Anderson dressed out for the first time since undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery Aug. 13. The Cowboys are optimistic that he'll be able to play in the season opener.
"We'll see," Anderson said. "Hopefully."

This guy is like glass, must have caught it from Stanback. So much for Wade stating he was fine....

If he plays on Sunday, this is all moot, let's see what happens.

Who wants to bet that Ogeltree scores in week 1?

Wouldn't surprise me at all, he is very good inside the red zone.

Somebody tell Hurd to put some freakin' pads on. This ain't a fashion show. Maybe the quad injury wouldn't be an issue otherwise.

Austin not playing isn't a big deal. He's only on the roster because our GM has pigeon-holed the position. It is what it is.

Hurd has his pads on. He said he was dressed out today.

Hurd doesn't wear the pads that protect the quads. Check him out next Sunday.

Lots of guys don't now, and I will never understand that. I don't see how they don't get deep bruises every week without them.

And why not wear them? They only weigh a few ounces. They aren't going to slow you down.

I just can't imagine not wearing thigh pads.

you can tell the difference when you're not wearing the thigh pads. Just because they dont weigh much doesnt mean they cant slow you down you just feel less restricted when you're not wearing them and thats why a lot of players in the NFL dont wear them. Anything to get an advantage is all it is

I know you feel less restricted, but do they actually slow you down even a quarter step? No.

Why not just get rid of shoulder pads? They're restricting, too, but you need them for protection. Same thing for thigh pads IMO.

Austin and Hurd should both google Wally Pipp.

Great line! and while we know its not meant to compare Ogletree to Lou Gehrig, its not a stretch to say the guy could easily slide into the #3 position and deliver immediate results. Enough waiting on Austin and Hurd - amazing.

hahaha im not arguing with you I agree the way players hit nowadays it would be smart to wear them but in todays sports players find anyway to get an advantage and in football having more speed gives players that advantage.

and before anybody else tries jumping in this talking about theres not much speed go talk to olympic sprint athletes about clothing restrictions and look at the work and technology thats been done on the clothing and shoes to enhance the light weightness in them as an example

Austin is a twinkie.
Its so obvious we are gonna be hurting at the WR spot thru the year.
We should have addressed it.
