Report: Moss deal close

The Patriots and WR Randy Moss are close to an agreement on a multi-year contract to keep the All-Pro in New England.

All along, it has seemed unlikely that Moss would leave the Patriots and, if they hammer this one out, then he'd stay without visiting any other teams. I know we've had rumor after rumor after rumor floating around, and I'd caution anyone against getting too caught up in those.

If this is indeed a done deal, then the search for a "Wow Factor" on offense will be left with dwindling options. The only bona fide top-shelf receiver left on the market, outside of Moss, is Javon Walker, who carries injury concern with him. The running back market, which wasn't exactly lush to begin with, lost its only potential "Wow" guy today, when Michael Turner wrapped up his contract with the Falcons.

Hey, there's always the draft .... Which I know you guys are very well aware of.

Whew.....

Sorry, I didn't think there was ANY way Moss was going to come here. Wildest dreams maybe.

I'm relieved he's staying in NE. My greatest fear was having him go to Philly or the NYG.

Its beats crying during the season when the media is pitting TO against Moss on the Cowboys team and the focus is not on the game/team.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the Patriots are close to re-signing free agent Randy Moss.
Schefter says the Patriots have a "standing multi-year offer to make Moss one of the highest paid receivers in the NFL." Schefter is almost never wrong, but we keep hearing Moss and the Pats are close and wouldn't count out another team like the Rams, Commanders, or Eagles making a last minute run at him.

I wouldn't want to leave Tom Brady either. Not surprising. It was interesting to think what if though.

I still like the idea of Roy Williams form Detroit much better.

Amen ...... looks like that will have to wait till next year. Unless a surprise happens in the draft.

Or if by the trade deadline Detroit is out of it and can't re-sign him.

Roy Williams over Randy Moss?

Count me out on that one. I'll take Randy Moss all day, everyday over Roy Williams.

We can be a tag team.

This is great news for us. No more money on free agent wr.

Time to use the draft for offense. I hope Jerry and the front office stay on this path. Young corners, wr and running backs.

Moss would make sense because he would add a different dimension to our offense. I don't see WR Roy Williams a good fit here because he's a solid posession receiver. We need a WR that can really stretch the field. I'm calling it now. Dallas will draft WR Devin Thomas from Michigan State. He's a big, fast and physical WR that can step in and do some good damage.

I have to say it, Moss is made for that offense in NE.

But the other teams in that division have upgraded themselves over the past few days. It won't as easy for NE in '08.

If edwards improves and they stay healthy, Buffalo will be on their heels in a season or two. Cleveland and buffalo are young at all the right spots and I look for both of them to be contenders for some time to come. If buffalo inks Johnston they will have a pretty formidable duo to go with edwards, lynch and a very good line. No to mention parrish. I thought they would make a run at crumpler but he signed with the titans.

I know, they may only go 15-1 or 14-2.

I would rather have Roy Williams for the following reasons.

1. He's younger.
2. He would be cheaper, IMO
3. I think he would be a better fit for our team.

Moss was never going to come here, his agent used the threat of him "visiting" other teams as a scare tatic against the Pats and they blinked.

Plus, do you really think TO and Moss on the same team is a good idea?

Moss comes with baggage. That would swing me the opposite direction and towards Williams.

Me too. Williams is the only guy I would actually be happy we signed.

and I think he is a perfect fit for Romo. Big, quick and strong hands plus he is not afraid of contact.

Romo excels at mid-range throws, he gets rid of it quick and he is deadly accurate. That is exactly where Roy Williams would make a living here.

The thought of our offense in the red zone with Williams, Owens, witten, crayton and barber is pretty exciting. Teams would really be in a tough spot to defend and if they sit back and play zone witten and crayton would eat them alive.
