He is the guy with 100% insight on who Dallas may be targeting in FA. Even if he no longer wants to be in Dallas, I don't want him with another team until his contract is up. If he goes to Miami, they will then be interested in all the same free agents based off the pro scouting Jerry paid for. At the very least I want him in Dallas to keep FA info from another team. We don't need to lose free agents to biding wars with Miami.

I dunno, Miami has tons of holes to fill. We have some needs but not that many. I think we have a lot of talent on our roster waiting in the wings.

Maybe other owners complained to the league. If this kind of thing happens once it could happen again.
Who is to say this can't or won't happen to another team.

I know that I would be pissed if I paid someone all year to gather info and then they leave a few months before we needed the info.

Ice, you probably weren't directing this comment in my direction but I'm part of the "alarmist" crowd on this one. We WILL lose some coaching staff and we will probably lose some more of the scouting staff. That means Jerry has to:

1. Be part of the cowboys run to the Super Bowl
2. Work on rebuilding some of the coaching staff
3. Rebuild his scouting staff
4. Finish his stadium

I personally think that is a lot on his plate (I think his personal style contributes to this). In order for the Cowboys to remain a dominant force in the competitve NFC East, Jerry has to get most of this right and the decisions aren't easy. I AM worried, not because I'm a Jerry basher, but because the task seems so large to me.

well, i do think if there's such a thing as rational alarm, you'd qualify. all very good and valid points. but the people we're losing jones had a hand in getting. it wasn't *all* parcells.

davis - parcells had nothing to do with him - jones move.
owens, ditto. wanna try to win a playoff game w/o owens? even with glenn? i don't.
garrett - we pray we don't lose him but the jones bashers say jones has no eye for talent. quite the quandrious delima if you ask me.

people that hate jones and hate the fact he's the self-appointed GM will never give jones any credit for *football* moves and hell, even owner credit has a * by it so they can disclaimer it.

yes, jones has his hands full. but we've not been "raided" and before it's over with i expect we'll have our HC and OC still in place. you win, people come get your parts.

if you can't get past that you'll never be a winner. the cowboys, and jones, *are* winners.

i think we'll be fine and i'd rather wait till we have proof the "Fun is Over" before we all pack it up and go back home.

no, wasn't pointed at you - there are a few others who seem to employ high-drama and make everything an extreme and i don't get that.

like gaine "obviously" doesn't want to be here alexendar portrays. because you want to go somewhere else doesn't mean you're not happy and can't perform at a high level where you are.

unless you're agenda driven and any bullet fits regardless of it's size or type.

for this reason alone i wish you simply couldn't interview until the superbowl was over.

period.

why some teams can get a head start on next year by hurting the teams still playing is beyond me and total idiocy to me.

So why did the league allow Ireland to leave when Parcells is obviously still the one with the final say?

Probably because it was a real promotion, even if he didn't have final say. This would be purely a lateral move.

Perhaps it was in his contract that he did.

This was most likely a lateral move. There is a difference.

Who would want to "raid" Wade Phillips?

Couldn't agree more. I hope Jerry pulled string with the commissioner to get this done as well.

Parcells is good. Not great. We owe him much. Not all.

Gaines stays.Great news, about as good as Ireland staying at this point.

Gaines knows how we evaluate pro players that will/could put us on track to have an off season like N.E. did last year.

For instance: We know we'll target a speed/field stretching WR , we know that rookies take time at that position, See: D. Bowe, Calvin Johnson, Robt. Meachum.

So who have we looked at/evaluated as off season targets?

As an example: Bernard Berrian is a free agent, Javon Walker has been hurt, played only late in the season, but is asking for a release in Denver. Larry Fitzgerald is due a big offseason bonus from a notoriously cheap management in AZ and Roy Williams has lost his OC and is disusted in Detroit and expressed interest in a return home to Texas.

Gaines has evaluated these expensive choices all season. Jerry needs his chief pro personnel guy for the WR position alone and the same applies in evaluating FA CBs Trufant, Asomoga and others.

We need another experienced WR and DB. So does Miami. Gaines is essential.

Bravo Commish.

He's under contract and would be off limits.

But you are the one claiming that as some sort of victory "when it's over", even though his name has not been mentioned as a target of anyone, anywhere.

Next time you could at least try to answer the question before you make yourself look like more of an imbecile.

Impossible.

According to some around here, he was useless because "nobody knew who he was" until yesterday.

Well, in Ireland's contract, he's supposed to have final say.

Perception is Bill will have it. Contractually, Ireland will.
