Burnett fined
Kevin Burnett has learned that a taunting penalty will cost him $5,000.

The NFL fined the Cowboys' linebacker on Thursday for his post-play penalty last Sunday against the New York Giants. Burnett stood over Giants running back Brandon Jacobs after a tackle and talked some smack, bringing a flag. The penalty helped the Giants kick what was a game-tying field goal to close the first half and earned him some harsh words from coaches and teammates.

Davis speaks, sort of
Right guard Leonard Davis was walking with a noticeable limp outside the locker room on Thursday, but he said his sprained left ankle was, "feeling better."

Davis had his leg rolled up in Wednesday's practice, however, he was able to walk off under his own power. Davis wasn't sure if he would practice today or if he would be available to play on Sunday against Washington.

"Day to day," Davis said, before ducking into the training room for treatment.

If Davis can't play, then Cory Procter would make the first start of his career. Interestingly, had the Cowboys beaten Seattle in the playoffs last year Procter would have had to start the divisional playoff game at right guard over Marco Rivera, who suffered a back injury that forced his retirement.

Glenn sighting
WR Terry Glenn came through the locker room on his way to get treatment, and was quickly out of there. So take that for what it's worth.

Basically, he's in Valley Ranch, and he's being worked on.

Troy Aikman reviews the Hannah Montana show

JOHN F. RHODES / DMN

Troy Aikman was on The Ticket this morning to talk about the Cowboys-Commanders game. But he also made time for his review of Wednesday night's Hannah Montana show. Troy had never even heard of Hannah until his daughters coached him up. Now, the former Cowboys quarterback sounds hooked.

Here's the audio, courtesy of KTCK-AM (1310) ...

OK, so now taunting is a fine also? The NFL is getting so over the top w/ fines and penalties. Why not fine Jacobs for running his mouth during the week? That'll probably be in the rule book next year.

Co-sign.

I like how Goodell started, but now he's lost control of himself.

The NFL should fine itself: Michael Vick, PacMan, et al...

So it seems Procter is indeed the backup for Bigg, his understudy if you will. Does that make him a Procteroligist? Regardless, doesn't sound as though he'll be in there long...

And that Terry G note is tantalizing. Wouldn't it be ironic if she returned against the Packers?

Well then Jacobs should get fined for the late hit on James before his unecessary roughness penalty and for his flop afterwards too!

The fine is a joke with all the jawing that the NYG were doing Sunday.

Absolutely ridiculous!!!!!

Going into the 10th game of the season and Glenn hasn't even been practicing or testing his knee?...I doubt very much we'll see him suit up this season.

it's pathetic that Jacobs didn't get fined for that hit. They can rewind the tapes and fine players for plays where there was no penalty called on the field, yet a Giant does it, and they turn their heads.

That sounds good about Bigg. I really have no problem with him missing the next couple of games. If he's unsure whether he'll play this week, then he'll probably be back for sure against GB.

I hoping Bigg can suit up, for division games you need all your players. Glenn may play some this year yet.

Yes, and the players know that. The first offense normally is $7,500, so if Burnett was fined only $5,000, he got off easy.

I'm not surprised, I would doubt he would practice after spraining it just yesterday. I still hope he can play on Sun.

I think that he would've been placed on IR if the doctors felt he couldn't play this year.......Now hypothetically if he can't come back, it wouldn't be a big deal IMO because the Cowboys have done well without him and it seems they may be secretly getting Stanback ready to run deep. All it takes is for someone to run down the field and run by a CB before teams start making critical changes that will leave the middle of the field open for crossing patterns. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the Cowboys start deploying Stanback into more offensive plays within the next couple of games.

The league is going to go after someone taunting but not bother getting Madison for intentionally kneeing Owens in the head?

I'm ok with him being fined. It should have been by Phillips not the NFL though.

I agree that in the scheme of things, this won't hurt the Cowboys' chances for this season...It would've only helped if he was available.

It simply, for me, brings up the whole series of choices that were available to Terry from the outset of the injury...He went against the recommend medical advice of going for the microfracture surgery that would've definitely put him out this season and instead did the 'band-aid' surgery that is now likely to see him miss the season anyway...It was a calculated risk on Terry's part that more and more looks to have backfired...Shame

Nate Newton was on 103.3 today and he said he talked to Bigg yesterday when he was doing the old alternate hot/cold treatment on his ankle. He said the first 48 hours are critical -- if you're diligent in the heat/cold treatment the first two days, it'll limit the swelling and make a big difference in your recovery time.

He seemed to think Leonard would be fine, and even said he was looking forward to seeing Procter. He said the second Bigg got hurt, Sparano was immediately all over preparing Procter to play. Nate said you hate to ever see injuries, but he thought it was good for a young guy like Procter to get a chance to show what he could do.
