Back in their high school days, Caron Butler and Tony Romo shared the same basketball court, growing up in Wisconsin.

They were two-fifths of the All-Racine County boys' basketball team in 1998. Butler averaged 24 points and 11 rebounds at Racine's Park High School. Romo averaged 24.3 points and 8.8 rebounds.

"We actually did great against them," Butler said. "We were 2-0 against them."

Butler was named a first-team All-State player. Romo was a third-team pick.

"He was a great scorer," Butler said. "His IQ for the game was unbelievable. He set you up, put you in great situations."

They never played in a game together, even AAU. Butler finished his high school career at Maine Central Institute before going to Connecticut and developing into a first-round pick by Miami. Romo went to Eastern Illinois on a football scholarship and you know the rest of his story.

When Butler watches Romo play quarterback, he sees some of the same things he saw in high school.

"He's a guy out there with great vision, that's dominating," Butler said. "I'm happy for him. He truly is a great dude, hard worker, a guy that comes back to be a pillar in the community, doing a lot of work. I'm truly happy for him."

They have yet to get together since Butler was traded to the Mavericks.

"I'll definitely see him, reach out," Butler said.

Good Read.

Deion Sanders has commented quite a few times that Tony Romo is an exceptional athlete.

Deion said he picks Tony over Michael Irvin when they play pickup.

superpunk remembers Caron Butler, the Washington Wizard, back when they used to play basketball in the nation's capital.

Obviously this translated to football. This is why Romo is one of the best QBs in the league. The cerebral part of the game is everything.

I so want to hijack this thread and talk about how bad *** the mavericks are right now.

They are going to make a push for the NBA title this year.

Kidds hitting 3's

Caron is a consistent 15+ point a night player

Haywood is a down low presence.

JET does his thing.

And Dirk is a top 5 player.

We can play solid defense now too.

Mavericks are back and if David Stern doesn't screw us over we should have a shot at the finals.

Thats why yall got beat at the AAC the other night without Butler and Dallas not even having a full practice.

Washington put us over the top.

Im more worried about Denver because they can expose Kidd defensively with Billups.

LA doesn't have a matchup for Kidd and they can't stop Dirk.

I am not a Lakers fan, however, Dallas can't compete with them in a 7 game series.

Nice words from Caron. I also read Romo does play a bit of soccer during the offseason and is in an indoor league.

Like that will ever happen.

But otherwise, I agree.

I dont see why they cant. I think you should pay closer attention to Dallas. They are playing as well as anyone right now and Jason Kidd is playing some great ball.

lol at Mavs fans whining still.

I suppose it takes the sting out of choking a finals series away.
