Roy Williams has made it clear that he hears all the criticism coming from the '90s Cowboys legends such as Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Deion Sanders and Darren Woodson. He can add Emmitt Smith to the list, too.

That's 14 Super Bowl rings worth of expertise. But, according to Williams, the ex-Cowboys don't have any credibility.

"It's the guys who ain't here, either," Williams said. "They're in the same boat as you guys. They're media guys too now.

"They don't come in here. They don't come to practice. They don't sit here and watch the film - practice film, game film. They might say they do, but you can't tell me they sit there and watch that stuff.

"C'mon out to practice and see how we do, see how we work and you tell us how good we are."

Roy Williams returns to coachable WR status

During his latest rant about the criticism directed his way, Roy Williams mentioned that the Cowboys' receivers "know who we are" as a group and individually.

Who is Roy E. Williams?

"I am a coachable wide receiver who does what he's coached to do," he replied.

Of course he is.

That hasn't changed since last season. But the way that he's being coached certainly has.

Williams believes the avalanche of criticism that's come his way after his poor production last season is ridiculous because he got precious few opportunities. He doesn't anticipate that being a problem in 2009.

"I feel a lot better," said Williams, who wasn't shy about criticizing Jason Garrett over the winter. "I feel at least used in the offense. Last year, I wasn't really used in the offense. I was just a big name out there doing nothing, hanging out, just chilling. This year I'm a lot more active and getting a lot more looks and having fun."

As far as the criticism goes, the coachable WR says it caught him off guard despite only catching 19 passes for 198 yards and one lonely TD (which beat the Bucs) in 10 games after the trade from Detroit. Williams, an proud Odessa Permian and Texas alum, thought he'd built up some credibility in his home state.

"I didn't expect it, but it's here," Williams said. "And it will be laid to rest soon hopefully."

You gotta like that the guy has a fire. Hopefully it motivates him to a career year. That would be BEYOND sweet!

It has been in his ear. RW feels he has been called out and in ways he has. It is up to him to prove his critics wrong because they will not stop until he does.

I just love how the media keeps hounding a guy about a particular subject then proceeds to use every reply against him. When Roy said he wouldn't talk much this season, he was lambasted by everybody. Maybe he had the right idea from the start.

It saddens me that his "homecoming" has been spoiled. He thought he'd be accepted with open arms, but now he knows better. It's a new season, though. He's healthy. Garrett and Romo have him in mind. He will be a fine complement to the rest of the Cowboys offense.

Troy, Michael, Emmitt and Deion, I love y'all to death, but I can't wait until you all look stupid because Roy is having a great season and the Cowboys are winning.

Tim McWorthless needs to be fired badly.

It's to the point now that it is almost worth my time to write to the editor calling for his firing.

They have had the entire off-season to question RW the ball is now in his court. If he can show himself as a top WR the fans will love him

Honestly.

And the failed comedian couldn't wait to bring back the 'coachable' line at the first opportunity.

As to the former player's opinions, I can see where they're coming from. Most of them are bigger 'fans' - having played for the Cowboys - than we are.

I think they're recent comments are the result of the huge disappointment that was the 2008 season.

And hopefully, the guys getting the criticism - like Roy Williams and Tony Romo - use it as motivation to be that much better this year.

I wish Roy would stop criticizing last season's offense, even if he's simultaneously showing satisfaction with this year's version. I'm sure Jason Garrett doesn't appreciate it.

Hey I have an idea... why not ask Williams about going up against the talented corners on the Bucs...

I can see why they wrote these kind of fluff pieces in the off season, but the regular season starts in a couple of days.. as a professional writer are really unable to write about something more relevant or interesting?

I believe Roy Williams can be a productive WR for us. I don't know or care about the #1(!) label. I think that 1000-1200 yards and 8-12 TDs is very attainable for Roy if he's healthy.

Regardless, he's too thin-skinned. This is the Dallas Cowboys. If you aren't winning Super Bowls, you're going to get criticized.

Nate Newton and Grady (don't remember his last name) were on Michael Irvin's show after last season, talking about how Williams quit on routes, didn't run routes correctly, and in Irvin's words, ran some patterns that weren't any patterns he'd ever known of (indicating that Williams was often jogging around haphazardly, either lost on what to do, or simply too lazy to do his job).

I've thought highly of him since his junior year of college. I hope this year he shuts up his critics, but at the same time, he should realize he's given them plenty of ammo to use against him.

People talk all the time about getting rid of TO for Romo's sake but in reality Roy will be the biggest benefactor.

i'm so excited to see this offense on Sunday and the rest of the year. I feel like we have a whole new offense now. between Garrett calling plays to spread the ball around and El Romo doing just that it feels like we'll see a new offense rather than last year where it was either hand it off to Marion or throw to Owens or Witten.
