Commanders could face wrath of league

Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips

The Tennessean reports that the Titans have asked the NFL to look into whether the Commanders violated the league's tampering rules by contacting DT Albert Haynesworth too early.

Haynesworth signed his $100 million contract five hours after free agency officially started Feb. 27. The terms of the deal, including approximately $40 million in guaranteed money, were reported several days earlier.

If the league determines the Commanders broke the tampering rules, it could cost Washington a draft pick or two. The Commanders already don't have a second-, fourth- or seventh-round pick this year.

Too dificult to prove. Besides the skins have been accused of tampering before and nothing ever comes up.

Usually teams don't file these kind of allegations against each other. I think there's enough proof against the Commanders...especially the player that specifically said the team spoke with haynesworth's agent before the deadline. They will probably lose a draft picks or two.

Doesn't matter. They throw away picks anyway.

The Redstinks got what they wanted and nothing will change that.

well i did my part, i remember this came out about a month and half ago about a week or 2 after haynesworth was signed, i found a document on audio with a Commander player saying that another Commander player had the same agent as haynesworth. And that he was told the agent and haynesworth had been talking and a deal was going to be done, before free agency started. So, I sent that audio to a tennessee reporter, He thanked me and took it from there.

So we'll punish a team who doesnt care about draft picks and the crime is worth doing if you dont care about the penalty. way to send a message.

haha thumper, i have done more than that with the cowboys;

1st; back in 1975 cowboys were missing field goals, i saw why, charley waters wasnt holding ball on fg attempts right, i sent a letter to tex schramn, he thanked me, next game charley had all fingers on the ball; no more missed fgs
2. i took a copy out of a book by red hickey, whom was a asst coach by landry, i drove to cowboys headquarters, gave the pages to john wooten, a few weeks after that, landry had the shotgun formation in dallas
3. i have sent the cowboys draft info on a few draftable players and yes the cowboys drafted some, in fact a couple after i sent them articles on the players, the cowboys sent scouts and coaches to look at that player, while drafting them later
4. sent in a few plays, and later a couple of them the cowboys used
5. one of my friends on this cowboys forum, i noticed something that was said on nfl network about a certain cowboy player giving away signal to a opposing defender so he could intercept the ball, my friend sent that to the cowboys

Finally, never underestimate what you can do; one game, that the cowboys had lost to the Commanders, when the cowboys had the tex schramn show. A fan called in and told tex that ne noticed that when robert newhouse would go out for a pass, he would unbuckle his chin strap. Jack Pardee whom was a player linebacker for the Commanders in that game, saw newhouse and would hollar out pass, pass,
So, tex schramn thanked the caller, and sure enough if you looked on film, when robert newhouse would go out for a pass to catch it, he would unbuckle his chin strap. Next game whether on pass or run, newhouse never would unbuckle his chin strap, (this story got to the media and they asked newhouse, he replied reason why he was unbuckling his chin strap, his helmet would keep him with the chin strap buckled harder to jump up and catch a pass) pardee saw this in the game as a key, and so did the fan, so never think that something you might do doesnt matter, it does.

I don't think they've filed an official complaint. But they've asked the league to look into it.

The Commanders should be punished just on general principle. I mean just for having Danny Boy they should lose a draft pick. :D

I'm not trying to call you a liar or anything, but I find some of those hard to believe. A fan giving info on draftable players? There are scouts for that. Sending in plays for a playbook? If you really did get all these things done, I congratulate you. But it seems hard to fathom that any fan is going to have that much impact on the team.

Cowboyjoe... Was it you who told Gil Brandt, Rod Hill was a great young talent, Danny Noonan wasn't on steroids and Stepfret Williams was sure to gain weight in an NFL training program.

Weren't you the one who told Danny White the Commanders were ripe for a fake on 4th down in the second game in 1982 Barry Switzer to run on 4th down twice against Philly, weren't you responsible for the Cowboys failing to drink pickle juice, and didn't you tell Bill Parcells Vinnie Testaverde could burn the clock with a handoff to Richie Anderson against Pittsburgh and Drew Bledsoe could still avoid the Giant rush.

If not you who?

It's no wonder they are trying to get Cutler. Then they'll have no draft picks to be taken away.

It doesn't happen often but they did slap the Niners with a lost pick last year for tampering charges so I wouldn't be totally shocked if the Skins get hit with a lost pick or two. Which, honestly, would be hilarious especially if they give up the farm to trade for Cutler. Maybe they could have only 1 or 2 picks this year and very few next year as well.

Remember, agents have reports put out before signing starts so that they can let the asking price be known. Danny just dived head first into the asking price.

The Skins are guilty as hell here, noway a $100 million dollar deal is done in like 4 hrs without any prior contact or negotiations.

However, the NFL is going to do jack about.
