Two weeks after putting a waiver wire claim on Chauncey Washington, they added him to the practice squad on Tuesday.

Washington played in six games last year for Jacksonville and was a special teams contributor for Joe DeCamillis. I don't think this is related to Marion Barber's quadriceps injury with Felix Jones and Tashard Choice ready to fill in.

The Cowboys actually claimed three players after the final cuts, but they put their highest priority on safety marvin White. The other player was linebacker Tim Shaw.

The Cowboys will have to let a player go from their practice squad to make room for Washington.

I liked Washington out of USC a couple years ago. He's got some skills. Could be a decent contributor.

McGee suited up for the game on Sunday. It might be a sign that Rudy Carpenter's services are no longer needed.

Emergency QBs can suit up without being active he suited up in Tampa as well if they put him in the game neither Romo or Kitna can go back inn

McGee was not active for the Tampa Bay game. He was injured at the time. My suggestion is that he is now healthy and can run the scout team in practice. If so, there is no need to keep Carpenter.

While looking for info on him earlier I read some fairly negative things about the guy so I don't know, take with a grain of salt.

He missed two full years because of academic issues and it was never an issue of him not being in class. Not trying outside of class? Probably. He's reasonably well-spoken. Better than Emmitt Smith anyway
Could be a learning disability. Could be a lack of effort
I'll admit Washington has NFL size, and he runs with enough power to make that speed more valuable - but he never looked like a 4.35 guy at USC, and I have no idea why teams would trust that to translate to the field. Of course, I had no idea why a team would take Chris Henry in the 2nd last year either...
He\'s a plodder, a second day draftee at best IMHO. He\'s also had a bunch of injury problems and isn\'t much of a receiver. I don\'t get the prediction either.
As a USC homer, he was easily the worst/slowest RB USC had. I trust my eyes more than what his 40 time came out as, he made LenDale White look like a speed demon, I thought his 40 time would have been in the 4.6-4.8 range. He isnt quick enough to charge full speed to the line and than cut outside when there's nothing there. When he runs and doesn't hesitate he's great. Unfortunately he likes to dance 50% of the time.
Washington is solid. Doesn't have that burst and is not much of a receiver but holds on to the rock and has the fundamentals to block well.
Watching utube highlights, he looks MBIII speed (not very fast) but he's big, still I wonder why CoachD wanted the guy...

You don't have to be active in that role, go back and look it up he did suit up for that game but wasn't active, you're allowed to do that with your 3rd QB

You're right, however it's a moot point anyway. Looks like Julius Crosslin has been let go.

Cowboys Sign RB To Practice Squad
Posted by nickeatman at 9/22/2009 12:12 PM CDT on truebluefanclub.com

The Cowboys have added a running back to the practice squad in Chauncey Washington, a speedster from Southern Cal.

Washington, a seventh-round pick of the Jaguars in 2008, played in six games last year, keeping him practice-squad eligible. He was released by Jacksonville at the end of training camp.

To make room for Washington, the Cowboys waived fullback Julius Crosslin, who was on the practice squad all of last season and the first two games this year. Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis is obviously familiar with Washington, who is experienced in the kicking game, especially as a returner.

This move is rather unrelated to Marion Barber’s quad injury, which could keep him out of practice this week and maybe even Monday’s game with Carolina. The Cowboys actually put a claim out for Washington two weeks ago when the teams reduced the rosters to 53. However, they had a higher priority for safety Marvin White, who has played the first two games.

Still, the Cowboys had plans to add Washington to the roster, so it may not be out of the question that he joins the 53-man squad, especially if Barber isn’t ready to play against Carolina.

Why are you people surprises. Jerry will not cut Holley as a favorite to Micheal Irvin. That's simple.

He looks like he plays to his scouting report -- not especially fast or elusive but runs aggressively north-south and finishes runs well.

Tulius was overrated on these boards anyways. People actually believed he was as good as Deon Anderson? I mean come on.. if you need any evidence how good Deon is, go rewatch the game.

Crosslin isn't anywhere near Anderson.. and there was really no need to keep him around. I would have liked Holley, but this doesn't bother me at all. Crosslin had a few bobbled catches in preseason and people were going berserk. He's not even half the blocker Anderson is.

FB's are a disappearing art of the game if you think about it. With the wildcat formation, two TE sets and RB by committee becoming the flavor of the week, they have less value than they once had.
