Cowboys beat bad teams? 'It's the truth'

There is a school of thought that the Cowboys' 4-0 start doesn't mean squat, considering that they've been bullying bad teams.

"I can take that," LB Bradie James said. "In a way, it's the truth. We still have to continue to prove ourselves."

Let's do a quick comparison of the undefeated teams' competition. The opponents' records for the four 4-0 teams:

Cowboys -- 3-13
Patriots -- 4-12
Packers -- 5-11
Colts -- 6-8

So you could say that none of the undefeated teams have proven anything. Of course, the other three have won Super Bowl(s) since the Cowboys' last playoff win.

Dallas beat the Packers the year Green Bay won the Superbowl. They also beat their opponent that year, New England. That season was also the last one when Dallas won the Superbowl. The Packers have not done too much since that time period as well. Add in that Dallas did beat Indy last year.

There is just too much football left to be played to worry about what the opponents records are right now. Dallas was playing very well during the middle of the season last year. Then they just lost it and limped into the playoffs. They can beat anyone if they play good football. In this era of parity, that is true of most teams. Dallas was not playing good football at the end of last year and it wasn't because Sean Payton figured them out. They were just not doing basic things that need to be done to win games. Right now they are and hopefully will continue to do that especially come playoff time.

Here are some more stats for the 4 undefeated teams in the league
...................................Opponents..Opponents.............Remaining
................Points...Points....Points.....Points.....Opponents..Opponents
Team............Scored...Allowed...Scored.....Allowed....Record.....Record**
Dallas..........151......72........265........417........3-13.......24-22
Green Bay.......105......66........307........334........5-11.......23-24
New England.....148......48........287........427........4-12.......22-25
Indy............131......74........301.6*.....373.8*.....6-8........25-19
* Indys numbers adjusted since two or their oponents have only played 3 games.
** I added wins and losses of each opponent they have yet to play even if they play same team more than once. So we got 4-2 for washington since we will play them twice and they are 2-1.

Sorry for the crappy chart...formatting stuff on this forum is really a pain.

Wow so the pats play an easy schedule. Hell, its even easier when you consider 4 of the wins come from us!!!! That's crap. How does one of the best teams in the league end up with the easiest schedule?

Agreed.

There is simply too much emphasis put on "power rankings" and teams counting their chickens already.

The season is at the quarter post.

Be happy we are where we are. Start over for the next four. And the next. And the next.

To continue on this theme, NE also plays Indy still ths year, so there are another 4 wins to 0 losses. NE's division is pretty week this year it looks like. The play both buff and the Jets again, and Miami twice...all in their division.

Although to be fair, we play NE and GB so it kinda evens out.

I meant to put in the number of above 500 clubs left each team plays this year...here it is:

Dal - 5 *note we play Wash twice which is 2-1 and could end up 2-2 after 4
NE - 4
GB - 4
Indy - 5

Season is still early though.

If we as fans take it week by week and savor the taste, the season will be so much more enjoyable. - putting the emphasis on the wins themselves and not someones's arbitrary power rankings.

To make the playoffs you have to beat the teams you are supposed to beat and beat a few upper tier opponents, last years colts strength of schedule was below .500 it was like .484.

Of these 4 teams, the Pats are the only ones that have NOT beat a team with at least 2 wins.

I wish we play the Pats already, I don't even care if we win or lose cause Strength of Schedule is all that matters. Once we play the Pats we shall inherit all their glory and not just for one week, but as the Pats win more our SoS gets better! YAY!!!! SUPERBOWL!
