DMN Blog: Cowboys' Marty B responds on Twitter today

I although am Martellus' age, I understand where he is coming from and why he is getting criticized for this. People don't realize that being offended by racial stereotypes happens no matter your skin color. How would the average person deal with someone calling them something in public? Would you fight the person? If so, you look like the loser in the end. If you pass it off, you may be affected by it in the long run. But those who are comfortable either dealing with racist remarks or are comfortable with their own stereotypes are those that are strong enough to not let the little things affect them.

Although someone like Martellus Bennett makes a video with racial stereotypes and foul language, guys like Matt Jones and Donte Stallworth are passed over even though they both committed either fatal crimes or felony drug possession. I would take MB over both of those players.

I've bashed Martellus several times in the past, but I actually found his tweet to be rather sophisticated and intellectual. Sure, make fun of the spelling and all that, but that's how Twitter is. Perfect grammar and spelling is all but outlawed on the thing. I thought he did a good job of speaki...err, tweeting from the heart.

It was typed on a phone. I think any one of us would have a pretty poorly written letter on a phone. Which is why I don't get twitter.

I'm quite surprised he, or anyone, could maintain a train of thought over what seemed like eight or nine tweets. That's impressive in its own right lol.

Isn't there a limit to characters per "tweet"? I have no idea, never used it, only know about it from this site and I read Bill Simmons' twitter page from time to time.

I'd imagine he cuts some of the words short to make sure he's able to fit as much as possible into one "tweet".

Get over yourself man!!! You're just a result of how the media wants you to react to this. Leave the man alone he's freaking harmless for goodness sakes I follow the dude on twitter and blogging is all he does ALL day. If this hobby helps him to unwind and relax and keep himself outta trouble like going to the clubs and getting drunk or what not let him have at it. I dont know if you're black or not but you dont speak for the whole black community to state on this board what we as blacks in america take heart to. Speaking as a black man in America there are FAR more things that involve racial inequaility that deserve more time and attention than what silly video a 22yo young man does that is far from that serious.

I'm aware of that. I also think that tweeting may be therapeutic to Marty B. I see nothing wrong with the stuff he has done, except the Cowboys helmet thing. Other than that, it all gets blown out of proportion. Thanks Hard Knocks. I wonder if his tweets and vids would be so newsworthy if HBO hadn't portrayed him the way they did.

Time to take a few game checks from this guy. He's funny and all and I understand that he's young (heck he's still older than me though), but he doesn't seem to understand that this isn't acceptable to the general public.

Some people in this country need to " lighten up, Francis "... What Marty B did was no different than what other minorities do when they make fun of themselves and the idiosyncrasies we all have singularly and collectively.

One of my favorite shows of all times was based on stereotyping the cuban/american community of the '70's and '80's. It wasn't a popular show nationally because it was produced by PBS locally in Miami, although it was extremely popular in Miami.

That's Steven Bauer, aka: Rocky Echevarria when he first started on the lower left.

There's absolutely ZERO difference between that show, and shows like Good Times, and what Marty B did, in terms of content.

So, to those whinning about it: " Lighten up, Francis ".
