He's too good a special teams player on a team that needs special teams players not to make the team. Admittedly, I have a soft spot for the guy b/c he works so hard and keeps his nose clean, but I think he could step in for Crayton and the team wouldn't miss a beat.

I'm hoping Hurd beats out Crayton for the #3 spot because of his ability to block in the running game. When a team gores 3-wide it benefits frome having receivers on the filed who can block, because then it has more of a legitimate option to run the ball off of tose formations and keep a defense off-balance. With out 3-heade monster at RB, having Hurd in that role can pose an advantage for Dallas over having Crayton. In fact if Crayton was traded away on draft day, I would not be surprised or upset because i have full confidence in Hurd as a #3 WR.

Why would anybody trade a proven slot-receiver like Crayton over a non-proven one like Hurd? Hell, Crayton may be the number 2 receiver anyways...

Yep I agree with that. I think what is still here after all the changes are those types of guys.

I do think hurd is a bubble guy because stanbach's athletic ability will always intrigue/tease/give hope to the staff over hurds seemingly one dimensional abilities as a wr.

If we draft a wr in the second or third that can play I would think hurd could be the guy out, unless stanbach is terrible this summer.

Doesn't this almost have to be a "put-up or shut-up" season for Stanbach? I think the Cowboys have waited long enough for him to validate their investment in him. I know injuries have slowed his development, but if he can't stay healthy (as is true of Hurd), then it is time to move in another direction.

I would love to see Hurd and Stanbach excell, but I have doubts they ever will:starspin

If Sam Hurd gets knocked off the team it will have to be by a guy who is a heck of a Special Teams player.

Hes one of the better guys on kickoff coverage.

We need more marginal players who may not even make the roster?

I like Hurd. He's Romo-friendly, plays hard, and other than his bobble of the onside kick against Washington, hasn't made a major screwup I can think of.

Plays pretty much penalty-free on special teams which is a lot more than Pat Watkins can say.

He's kind of like Bill Bates in his approach to the game and you can't win without a few of those guys.

Personally, I'd rather have more guys like Demarcus Ware.

...not taking anything away from Hurd's dedication, of course. :)

LOL, +1, loved Hurd for his intangibles since day one. i know he wont ever amount to too much in the NFL but he will always willing to give you 100%, be a great special teams player and a reliable 3rd or 4th receiver and not complain about it.
