Cowboys refuse to apologize for win

The Cowboys win Sunday may have left some fans and critics a bit unsatisifed.

That's not the case with the players.

"I've played long enough in this league, I don't understand and can't comprehend feeling bad about a win,'' linebacker Keith Brooking said.

Linebacker Bradie James was incredulous when asked if this could have been a devastating loss.

"Why would I talk about us losing?'' James asked. "We didn't lose the game, you know what I mean.

"You all (media) are going to talk about that losing stuff. I mean, we didn't lose. Last week, we lost at the end. So we found a way to win. How about that.

"It's up to me to accentuate the positive, the positive being we found a way to win. That's what we did.''

Keith Brooking cherishes the win

You might sense a theme with some of these posts coming from the players post-game. They're not going to apologize for the win against a winless Kansas City team.

I get it, especially with all that happened in the game to them and caused by them. But I think they know it cannot continue. That's another topic for another time.

But for Keith Brooking, this style points stuff is something new to him after spending all of his career in Atlanta.

"That's an understatement as far as the expectations and the media and the microscope that you are under," Brooking said. "They're not even on the same planet. Yeah, I jsut think the fans, man, I love their passion. I love their intensity but everyone involved in this thing, we need to enjoy the wins. Obviously we need to learn from the mistakes when you have ugly games but just know that you've got to cherish these things because they're tough to come by."

So eerily similar to the post game in the Cincinatti game last year. They refused to apologize for that type of game last year as well.

In the NFL you take a win anyway you can get it... The offense put the defense in bad positions in this game, remember folks this is the NFL and teams get paid to capitalize on mistakes.

Why would they apologize for winning? That'd be like Strahan apologizing for sacking Favre on that obvious bootleg years back.

Yea, well we ought to be the captains of industry because we certainly give the opposition enough mistakes to try to capitalize on.

I'm not unsatisfied. You play football for one reason; to win. A watch the Dallas Cowboys for one reason; I want them to win. I worry about stats when I'm playing Madden 10, but in real life, I don't care how many touchdowns Romo throws if he leads his team to victory.

This team never learns. No one is going to hold them accountable for the way they played this week because they got a win. Play like crap against the worse team in the league, get an eek of a win, forget about playing like crap, fail to improve. This record has been played before. This is why this team will end up 8-8. Until there is some accountabilty (among other things) from these coaches and staff this team will sputter in mediocrity.

I've been one of the hardest Dallas critics but at the end of the day you play to win the game... They won and hopefully will learn from the mistakes today.

Good post.

I agree with the players.

They shouldn't. Of course, no one asked them to, which makes this one big straw man argument.

I totally agree, but the accountability has to come from 2 people. Jerrah and Wade. The fact that Jerrah was fist pumping and hugging his son in the booth tells me that he's satisfied. Total B.S.

Look, Brooking is earning a lot of slack with me this year. He's not dumb. This is a crucial stage we're in and I suspect Brooking understands this all too well--if this is his strategy to get the Cowboys motivated going into that Atlanta game, I'm not going to carp.

Having said that, I'll believe in a Cowboy roll when I see it.

Apparently you didn't read the first blog entry by David Moore and the comment by Bradie James.

I don't want them to be apologetic about the win. I'm not looking for contrition.

But it would behoove them to acknowledge they didn't play well and made mistakes that would get them beaten by better teams.

There does seem to be a lack accountability within the Cowboys organization.

I wouldn't be so sure unless you've listened to the questions being asked by the reporters.

This is the Dallas media that directly tells a head coach they could do a better job.

I'm not optimistic but this is Dallas' chance to turn things around. I would say that the first quarter of the Atlanta game is going to be a very important signpost.

Good teams don't get excited about barely beating awful teams. When Dallas almost lost to New York at home in December of '95 Michael Irvin and Emmitt Smith were visibly pissed postgame and reportedly called out the team in the Locker room. They then proceeded to destroy Arizona, Philly and Green Bay on their way to the SB.

This team just talks about "giving it their best shot". That's the difference between winners and losers. To borrow a quote from The Rock, losers whine about their best, winners go home and **** the prom queen.

Why should they. A win is a win, pretty or ugly. And this was pretty ugly. But it is a win.
It's a type of win needed. If they would have won big like most thought or hoped. Then it would be....A BIG WIN, BUT WILL IT GIVE THE TEAM FALSE HOPE GOING INTO THE BYE WEEK....

This game they found a way to win, instead of losing, despite the penalties, turnover, last minute game drives given up by the defense. So there are plenty of negatives to work on. But yet it is a win to give them confidence that things can go their way.

Also there were some positives. Choice is showing why he deserves more touches, /romo looked much better, and Austin showed why the coaches were high on him.
Now can he keep it up, and maybe the other defensive coordinators now need to game plan for him a little, and it takes the pressure off of RW11 to break out. That remains to be seen. But it may happen.

Of course I read it. Asking James if "this could have been a devastating loss" (a sensible query, btw) is hardly the same thing as asking him to apologize for the close outcome. In fact, it's not even close.
