Olshansky sucks. I live in San Diego and he was a none factor.

I would rather see Hatcher and Bowen get a shot than to waste money on this no load.

Why do people always use that logic. Just because you live in the town where someone has previously played does not mean your opinion carries more weight than anyone elses.

Possibly the local team (Chargers) gets more TV and newspaper time, so the poster has some direct exposure or has possibly seen the "someone" play in person?

Just a thought...

So far that I've seen, its always a person who wants to pull the I know more about this guy than you and the experts do. That they suck, even though others that seen him play, stats, experts all think the guy is a good player.

People compare most DE's in the 3-4 to 4-3 ends and expect them to be as dynamic as say someone like Jared Allen.

Okay, I live near New Orleans. I don't know more about the Saints than I do about any other team. Because.........I follow the Cowboys.

If he is trying to say that he watched all of Igor's games I have to wonder when he watched the Cowboys.

FYI

Chris Canty - 37 Total 25 Solo 3 Sacks
Igor Olshansky - 29 Total 21 Solo 2 Sacks

The trouble with comparing stats is the different teams played and the different situations seen. So for the most part, there stats are close enough to make the assumption that Olshansky would be a decent replacement that likely will not be available when the Cowboys choose to address this position.

I believe Igor missed a few games last season.

I also heard on one of the Cowboys radio shows that Igor had 50+ tackles last season. (Probably the Chargers numbers)

The real trouble with comparing tackle stats is that they are reported/counted differently across different stadiums. Me, I'd be especially suspicious the non-solo tackle stats as that is likely where you'd see the biggest difference across scorekeepers. Solo tackles should be relatively consistent but when you've got multiple guys making tackles these stats really break down.

I like the team #s because I expect most teams use the stats to make evaluations of productivity - of course that is all relative to the other players on the team.

Perhaps the best measure here would be % of total tackles made by the D-line, based on the official team stats.

Even solo tackles aren't consistent, because some statisticians award a "solo" tackle and an assist when two players are involved, while others award two assists and no solo tackle.

Wasn't he benched? They soured on him towards the end there.

But you would agree, however, that when a guy gets a solo tackle, it is pretty clear that he was making a tackle.

I don't think that is correct. There were some games he didn't start, yes. But in those games the Chargers starting D came out in a nickle alignment with only 2 DL - they did that several times -- there was even a game that Jamal Williams didn't start when they did that.
