Brandon Jacobs is a 6-foot-4, 264-pound load that occupies the Cowboys defensive thoughts in the days leading up to Sunday's game.
"He's a big man,'' defensive end Marcus Spears said. "He's a tough, hard runner. He's going to hit the gaps, hit the holes and try to get through. He's praying he gets to the secondary against those small guys. That's something we realize.
"He's improved a lot from when we first started playing him to now. He's become a lot smarter runner. He sees the field a lot better. You can tell on film, sometimes he bounces things outside. He used to not do that at all.''
Jacobs has rushed for more than 2,100 yards and scored 21 touchdowns since the start of the 2007 season. He's the hammer that softens defenses for the bursts of Ahmad Bradshaw.
In boxing, they call that a one-two punch.
In the NFL, they call that effective.
Jacobs rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries in New York's 35-14 win over the Cowboys last season. The Giants scored only eight points and lost the rematch when Jacobs was out with a knee injury.
"I know he's a big guy and all,'' safety Gerald Sensabaugh said. "But everybody can be tackled.''
True. But it's about how many yards they gain before they are tackled.
