Cricket could start Sunday night

Sixth-round pick Deon "Cricket" Anderson was so nervous about making the team that his wife and baby boy didn't move down here until after the 53-man roster was announced. Now, it looks like Anderson could start at fullback Sunday night against the Bears.

Anderson is working with the first-team offense for the second consecutive day. FB Oliver Hoyte suffered a serious stinger when the Broncos were at Valley Ranch, and it's apparently acting up again.

Anderson has impressed his teammates with his recklessness on kickoff coverage. There's no question he's tough enough for the fullback job, but he's a wide-eyed rookie. Is he ready to start against the defending NFC champions on national TV?

"I'm not thinking about the big picture," Cricket said. "I'm just thinking about the little things -- just hitting my assigned guy."

Oops. Makes me nervous when we have to make a change on our offense and use a rookie to block. Hope Hoyte gets well in a hurry.

Ugh. Don't like this at all. He might not be worse at catching the ball, but he's not nearly as good at blocking.

I think Anderson will soon be better than Hoyte, if he is not already. And I like Hoyte.

i don't remember seeing Hoyte get hurt on Sunday...maybe his dropped passes are coming back to bite him?

His stinger he received from the Denver preseason game (that kept him out for a couple weeks) is acting up.

Well, the good thing is the Bears don't blitz much compared to other teams. They have a great defensive line. He just needs to remain aware of where Romo is when he is to help out.

Hoyte is not a great lead blocker, he makes his block about 30% of the time. He clogs things up much more than he pancakes someone. Now you can take that if he was a factor in the passing game, or on special teams.

This smells like an "he's hurt" excuse when in fact he's being demoted.

Despite predictions of his demise, Hoyte's been the starter all of TC and all this year. He's a good blocker. There's no reason to believe there's anything going on here other than the starter being hurt and the backup taking his place.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hoyte plays Sunday night when it's all said and done.

Not many fullbacks pancake defensive linemen or linebackers for that matter. It's the offensive linemen that do the pancaking. All fullbacks usually do is hit linebackers and turn them to the side. Most can't even drive them backwards. The key for a fullback is to just turn them and take them out of the play.
