Special teams coach Joe DeCamillis is not only attending practice, he is also running the drills.

DeCamillis is wearing a brace on his neck and yelling through a bullhorn as the special teamers go through drills.

DeCamillis had surgery to repair a fractured neck suffered when the team's indoor practice facility collapsed on May 2. He had surgery a few days later and was released from the hospital on May 10.

Initially the Cowboys said Wes Phillips would run the special teams portion and DeCamillis would receive the practice film at home.

and that my friends is a man with passion and dedication to his job, and who is determined to improve the crappiest part of this team from last year.

now that being said, i hope he doesn't push himself too hard and hinder his recovery.

So when some player comes to Coach Cupcake complaining that he doesn't want to play b/c of some nagging injury this year, I say Wade sends them into Coach D's office to talk about it :)

As we wrote earlier this morning, Nick Folk, Kyle Kosier, Mike Mickens and Victor Butler are not practicing.

Defensive end Jason Hatcher and defensive tackle Tim Anderson are also not working out.

Roy Williams is wearing his UT number (4) at practice but just for the day we are told.

With the special teams period over it looks as If Joe DeCamillis has left the grounds.

Outstanding. I really think he's the one addition that will help us out the most. He's done it everywhere. Excellent coach.

In fact, we might have overkilled special teams. I think he could have taken even last year's sad lot and made them decent. Bruce Read was so awful.

Okay, it is official. I love this guy.

This kind of attitude is about fire. I am impressed.

It's simple...to win it todays NFL, you need a coach with fire like Joe D.

Wade doesnt have it, but I hope/think he can get the job done with this team.

If Wade isnt here after this year, I DONT want Shanny or Holmgren. I want a young coach with fire and passion. Someone like Irvin last night on 4th and Long. Someone like Mike Tomlin.

ESPN Mosley:

Injured Cowboys assistant returns to work early

May 19, 2009 12:40 PM

Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley

The plan was for Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis to work from home while recovering from the broken neck he suffered when the club's indoor practice facility collapsed two weeks ago. But when the Cowboys' veterans and rookies showed up for organized training activities (OTAs) Tuesday morning, DeCamillis was on the field at Carrollton's Standridge High School Stadium barking out commands to players while wearing a neck brace that extends down his back.

DeCamillis was supposed to coach via Wade Phillips' son, Wes, but it appears that the plan has been scrapped. DeCamillis was brought into to fix the Cowboys' underperforming special teams units. On Tuesday, he stood behind the kickoff unit and shouted encouragement -- and expletives -- into his megaphone. Wade Phillips has vowed to put more emphasis on special teams this season, and that's why the first 30 minutes of practice were devoted to DeCamillis.

I disagree. There are quieter coaches who do a great job. You've got your Tom Coughlins and you have your Tony Dungies.

Great to see him back. It may hurt to be out there but it won't cause harm.

Maybe he should lend his services to the defense... Not saying Wade isn't a great defensive coach, but they don't have that light under their ***.
