Brian Davis E-mail News tips

When Larry Fitzgerald was running wild early Sunday and things were turning sour for the Eagles, TV cameras caught Brian Dawkins walking up and down the sideline trying to put the proverbial foot in the you-know-what of his teammates. Somebody -- anybody -- was trying to give his team a spark.

On the other sideline, we saw Kurt Warner having some interesting face-to-face "conversations" with offensive coordinator Todd Haley. We all know that Haley isn't afraid of a little face time with his star offensive players. But to me, it showed the competitive fire that burns inside both men, especially Warner.

I know some believe that ranting and raving on the sideline can be overrated, and it is -- if it's coming from the wrong person. But somebody -- anybody -- must do it occasionally.

Which Cowboys players are going to come back and hold their teammates more accountable in 2009? Who won't be afraid to put a proverbial foot in his teammates' you-know-what when things turn sour in Arlington? We know the head coach won't do something like that. So it's all on the players, really.

Will the quarterback show more fire and emotion than we saw in 2008? I firmly believe that teammates feed off the energy from a star quarterback. If we see more goofy grins in `09 instead of more fire and brimstone, I'm convinced nothing will change.

This article is a joke..when TO is pacing up and down the sidelines trying to "rally the troops" he is looked at as a team cancer. Apparently now, that is what is missing. GOOD ONE!

I don't think you see leaders going into the media saying "I need the ball more" When it was thrown to you 20 times in the previous game.

The problem is I get the feeling that a part of the team could care less what TO is raving about.

And no one has faulted him for trying to rally players - but when he comes off the field and gets in a coaches face it has the exact opposite effect. It erodes confidence in everyone.

How can anyone see T.O. as a leader when he is quick to throw a teammate or player under the bus when something goes wrong??

Maybe you need to work on your relevance.

Anyone not agreeing with this article (for once they got it right) is clueless.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear - I am NOT arguing that TO is a team leader. I am arguing that this article is full of poop. My reasoning is that the article indicates the cowboys are in NEED of leaders on the field - ala Bdawk and Warner who yell at other players and try to rally the troops when the team is in need. HOwever, if you watch the cowboys closely - you will see TO does just that but then these same idiots complain about it. You can't have it both ways.

What you are not registering in your head is when T.O. does it teammates don't take him seriously as stated above. When BDawk does it his teammates respect him and want to go to war with him because he goes to war for them. That's the difference.

Here let me give you an example of this so maybe you can understand.

Lets say i am apart of the Dallas Cowboys. I am going in the media criticizing guys and i have shown in the past that i was not much of a team player. When i try to step up and rally guys then they are not going to take me serious. But when a heart and soul guy like BDawk that has been a great teammate and leader his whole career steps up and pumps the guys up they will listen.

The article clearly states its not just just yelling and screaming that is needed - it needs to come from the right people who have the respect from everyone in the locker.

I'm sorry, I think there is a large portion of this team that has had it with TO, had it with the drama with the coaches, and just wish he would shut up.

Lurch was dead on - the center of all attention whining about not being enough of a center of attention is hardly the guy who needs to be in that role. Maybe Crayton will get all fired up or something.

what yall fail to realize/acknowledge is the majority or players are in support of TO. (from quite vets, productive rookies) Im not concerned about SanFran and Philly but who in Dallas was thrown under the bus, and If you are on the sideline "holding players accountable" in essence you are putting them on blast in front of the world.

NOT a Me-O fan, but you guys are right: if T.O. does that, he's a cancer and malcontent, when Warner or Dawkins do it: it's leadership. On the other hand, they both have a solid, untainted past. T.O.? Not so much

Wasn't he the self-appointed captain last year??? His teammates must not think of him as much of a leader because they damn sure didn't vote him as team captain.
