Ease up on Ellis

I'm not surprised that some of you folks were so harsh on Greg Ellis yesterday. But those who question his toughness and integrity are way off.

Ellis is busting his butt to try to get back on the field, not sipping lemonade while watching his teammates practice. His rehab work has him drenched in sweat a half-hour into every practice. His work ethic is one of the major reasons he's months ahead of schedule in coming back from an injury that often sidelines guys for a full year.

Ellis alienated a lot of fans by complaining about his contract, but that has nothing to do with his injury. This is an honest man, too honest in the case of his displeasure with the Cowboys' commitment to him. He has said he's not faking, and the MRI results back him up. He has bursitis (major pain and inflammation) in his left foot.

Ellis' declaration that he's concerned his career could be over is a bit dramatic. But it's his livelihood and his body, so he has the right to be a worrywart without being labeled a wimp and whiner.

I must have missed where Cowboys fans have ragged on Ellis for being lazy.

Oh, and if he was "ahead of the full year recovery schedule" normal to this injury as Mr. McMahon suggests then he wouldn't be incapable of playing because of the lingering effects of that injury right now.

Reading comprehension should not be optional for a journalist, columnist, or blogger.

Chastise people for what they are actually griping about...fine. But no one has harped on Ellis work ethic. It's his attitude and drama queen nonsense that has pissed people off.

An average 5th grader could comprehend that with very little difficulty.

And I'm a honest fan and I can honestly say that Ellis has been just a average DE since he's been here. He's never lived up to his 1st round draft status. To be honest, I don't think we're missing much if he doesnt return. I'd rather see Spencer, Glymph, or Carp get that valued PT over Ellis. Ellis was never a special player like a Haley, Tolbert, Randy White, or even Lett. Great guy and person but just average on the field. I'm just being honest!!

I like Ellis, but I am tired of him voicing all his displeasure to reporters. I think since the media cannot talk about T.O., they will milk Erllis for a story. I wish Ellis would keep some of his opinions to himself or do what Romo did: play nice.

I hope Ellis can return and show the young guys how to rush the QB. Not havinf him last year, hurt the defense in the last games.

I think he needs to have 4-5 days off and rest the heal instead or going out everyday and busting his butt. If the pain hasn't gone away in 3 weeks its time to try something a little different and giving the heal a rest for a few deals seems like a great place to start.

I could not agree more. I'm sure he is a good guy, and I'm sure those types are very good to have in the locker room. However, I'm with Hostile on this one. His whining is a big downer, and Ellis has turned into a bit of a drama queen.

It's fine to say we wouldn't miss Ellis and that Glymph, etc., can do the job. But we don't KNOW that to be the case and we don't KNOW how long it will take. As Cowboy fans are we really prepared to take that risk and what happens if we wrong and w/o Ellis we have to wait maybe until mid season before Spencer can step up and maybe it never happens to the extent we need for the others. The Cowboys & Wade drafted Spencer cause they obviously didn't believe we had the talent on this team to play the other OLB. Besides Wade has clearly stated in his 34 he really needs/would like to have 3 pass rush players. So let's not throw Ellis away just cause we annoyed with his whining to the press about his contract. Let's just hope he gets healthy soon and returns to the form we need. He and Ware and get the job done on the outside while allowing Spencer to be put in positions which really allow him to shine and significantly help this team.

I'd love to ignore Greg, but he won't let us. Every few days he pops off about his contract or his rehab. Ease up? How 'bout you shut up.

:hammer:

I agree, Ellis has been nothing more than average, so now with this injury, why would we think he could even come back to his average ways? I think his yearly 8 sacks can easily be made up by other players. Chances are this is his last year anyway, let's let the new guys play now.

From that blog what fans had to say:

”For as much money as these guys make quit being a sissy and get out there and play. WAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!”

”JUST LIKE KEITH SAID, BUT I BET IF JERRY RE-WORDS ON ELLIS'S CONTRACT I GURANTEE HE'S HEALED AND READY TO PLAY BY TOMORROW LOL”

”He needs to be quiet suck it up and try to get back on the field..”

”If Jerry gave him more money, would he miraculously recover.”

”He's obviously trying to get cut. Think about it.”

This is just the second phase of the Ellis fade.
First he harps about salary and "commitment"
Now he discovers he has doubts as to whether he can come back fully healed.
A neverending drama for Ellis
I think he does retire -- before he is cut.
He is done, even if Spencer had never darkened his doorway.

It wouldn't surprise me if Ellis flatout retires.
