G-men to become rush men

The Giants changed defensive coordinators in the offseason, hiring Steve Spagnuolo away from the Philadelphia Eagles. He was the linebackers coach there and brings Jim Johnson's blitz happy scheme with him to New York.

So the Cowboys won't be the only defense in the NFC East that figures to dial up the aggression in 2007. The Giants only managed 32 sacks a year ago with Tim Lewis serving as coordinator.

In the quest to bolster the pass rush, the Giants moved former No. 1 draft pick Mathias Kiwanuka from backup end to starting strongside linebacker and also drafted defensive tackle Jay Alford. He had eight sacks at Penn State each of the last two seasons. That's also why the Giants are going to visit with Simeon Rice Wednesday -- Spagnuolo is of the belief that you can never have enough quality pass rushers.

I don't have a problem with the Giants' strategy. Let them beef up the defense. Manning needs all the support he can get to be successful. The more the Giants ignore the offensive side of the ball, the better.

Say what you want, but Kiwi and Strahan coming off the same side is a pretty nice pass rush (or should be)

Of course, Strahan isn't very happy right now, and Osi thinks Rice isn't much of a run defender. Should make for some interesting times in the Apple with Coughlin behind the wheel.

Unless Strahan retires like he says he might.

The good news is that our offense is now seeing a very well designed blitz almost every day in practice. ;)

And I don't think their corners can handle much man coverage. They've had problems there for years now. (And I don't think Ross will be very good.)
