Going through scenarios

Now that the draft board is set, the Cowboys will go through all sorts of scenarios this week in order to be ready for any situation that comes up before they pick at No. 22 and 28 Saturday.

"You want to get a clear cut decision before hand," coach Wade Phillips said. "Now, I've been with teams that didn't do it as much or I've certainly heard of teams where they get to their pick and it's a big argument. It's, 'I want him.' 'No, we want him.' Some of those decisions you need to make and know what your feeling is. It's not time to be arguing.

I just went though two mock drafts today for friends in the business, which I will try to post some time today, which I think the Cowboys would like. In one, Mike Jenkins and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie available - I took Jenkins. In another, the top corners were gone, but running back Rashard Mendenhall was theres, so I took him.

I would trade both picks. Trade #22 and Ayodele for Roy Williams. I know I'm stubborn. I still think Detroit could come to their senses. Then trade down at #28 with Atlanta for a 2nd and a 3rd.

Take a CB with the highest 2nd round pick. Cason, Flowers, Jenkins, and Talib are all possible candidates who could still be there at the top of the 2nd.

Grab RB with our 2nd round pick and whatever we want from there on out.

The way I think the trade would happen is if someone fell to 28 that the Lions loved then they might pull the trigger with us.

I'll trade you a small chocolate chip ice cream cone for an extra large strawberry ice cream cone and I'll throw in a napkin, no charge.

Yeah, I'd love that scenario too. You are being stubborn, Hostile....but one can dream.

More likely that the very best we could do is our Rd 1a and Rd 2 picks for him.

I say trade both 1sts for Roy and detroit's 2nd round pick. That would put us in the range for a rb, ie rice, Charles, johnson, and then take a db with our 2nd round pick.

As much as I like RW, NO WAY do I get rid of both firsts. He's not that calibre, regardless of whether we get Detroits 2nd or not. IMO/FWIW...

With the 22nd pick, I think we might end up with a player that none of us are really thinking about. Somebody who falls that isn't expected to... like Albert (OG), Rivers (LB), Mendenhall (RB), etc.

With the 28th pick, I'm expecting us to take Brandon Flowers, who I think is a very good player (tough and instinctive). We could trade back, of course, but if we do I think we'll still be targeting Flowers or someone like him (Cason, Talib) with the acquired trade back. So, I don't expect us to trade way back away from 28.

There is an outside chance we could package some picks and move up in round 1... but I don't see it as likely.

I would do this too and then subsequently trade out of #28 to recoup the second along with getting a 4th and possibly a 1st next year. Then I would draft the best RB or CB available at say Baltimore or Atlanta's spot in the 2nd. And if Jerry feels frisky trade back into 2nd if there is a player he truly likes available in the late 2nd.

Hostile's scenario would be the perfect one but if that failed I would not be adverse to trading #22 and #61 (?) for RW11.
