Don't give up on Carpenter
So says Hall of Fame scribe Rick "Goose" Gosselin in today's chat.
Jay: Do you think Bobby Carpenter will ever become a productive player for the Cowboys?
Rick Gosselin: Carpenter showed the talent in college to be a first-round draft pick. It's on the coaches to find that talent at this level and put him in position to make plays. The Parcells staff couldn't do that. Neither has the Phillips staff. I still think there's something there with Carpenter. Everyone thought Troy Polamalu was a wash after his rookie season when he didn't start any games and made only a handful of special-teams tackles. He won a starting job in his second season and wound up in the Pro Bowl that February. Carpenter has too many measurables to give up on.

Tank fits Phillips 3-4 just fine
Todd Archer explains that Tank Johnson's transition to playing nose in Mr. Fix-It's 3-4 shouldn't be that tough.
Wade Phillips' one-gap scheme basically requires the nose tackle to do the same thing Johnson did in the Bears' Tampa Two scheme. The Tuna wanted his nose tackle to basically take on a double-team and hold his ground. Phillips wants them to burst through their gap and be disruptive.
"He's an explosive guy," Bears MLB Brian Urlacher said of Johnson. "The 3-4, he’ll do pretty well with his explosion and how strong he is at the point of attack. I think he will do well in that defense. I think they can expect a consistent guy who is going to get up the field."
