Wade's a good guy, but ...

Wade Phillips chatted with the Buffalo media yesterday, and his old pal Jerry Sullivan thought Phillips was awfully defensive for a guy who doesn't dwell on the past.

Sullivan, the Buffalo News' columnist whose anti-Wade rant from February looks pretty silly now, believes the coach's success with the Cowboys won't last long. From the Sully on Sports blog:
Anyway, Phillips is a good guy and it's nice to see him doing well in Dallas. But he deserved to get fired in Buffalo. His time was up. And something tells me the honeymoon won't last forever with Jerry Jones. When things get tough and he has to make some really tough calls, I suspect the old Wade will re-emerge. Maybe I'll be eating my words in February, but to me he's still an average head coach at best.

If we're still playing in February - heck, even late January - Wade's done something right.

Ok, if WP is an average HC, what does it say about Dick Jauron? Jauron only has 43-58 record, WP at least have a winning record.

do any of ya'll remember the big deal that was made of Wade Phillips
not wearing a headset on the sidelines in Buffalo ?
for some reason i remember that and always thought those sportswriters
up there were just making a lot out of nothing. maybe this guy was one of them.

I remember when we first hired Wade, I went to some Bills boards to see what they were saying. They brought that up, and it was something I never remembered being a big deal. But up there, it obviously was.

It's funny, Wade had a perfectly good explanation. His coordinators were standing right next to him, so why would he need a headset to talk to them? But to some people, I guess it signals that you aren't involved enough.

Marty didn't wear a headset, either... Wonder how SD fans feel about the subject? ;)

As long as the players believe in Wade it really makes no differance what a sports writers opinion of him is. Wade is a good guy but his guys play hard for him

In return... I hope the Bills hire Dave Campo as head coach. That would show then what a bad head coach looks like.

Of course Jauron isn't Cinderella, himself.

im glad i wasnt imagining that headset deal, thanks CL.

right about now i bet the SD fans would trade a norv w/headset
for a marty w/o one.

they would probably throw in a general manager too.

It is pretty obvious to me the problem in Buffalo is their owner Wilson.

He sounds like a little twit and obviously he did not see eye to eye with Wade.
