Is Mike Jenkins ready for a starting role?

Wade Phillips didn't exactly express a ton of confidence when asked that question about first-round pick Mike Jenkins, who is the starting left cornerback because of Terence Newman's injury and Adam "Pacman" Jones' suspension.

"We're gonna find out," Phillips answered. "He's been playing obviously. Would I want him to start this game over Newman or somebody else? No."

Phillips had the scout-team offense throw Jenkins' way over and over again during today's practice. How'd the rookie handle that?

"OK," Phillips said, adding that Jenkins got better as the practice went along.

Phillips also mentioned that fifth-rounder Orlando Scandrick, the slot corner in the Cowboys' substitution packages, could see some playing time at left cornerback in the base defense Sunday in St. Louis.

I'm glad Hos has his back. I think Scandrick could be better right now. I wouldn't trust either and they will try to get Holt on one of them and if they're smart get some pressure on whoever is the starting nickel and dime MLB. Actually we don't have anyone that can cover Holt by themselves and maybe not even with our 'safety' help.

Pass rush guys. Pass rush. Safeties gotta go.

Well who would? I mean that Somebody Else has been playing hands down the best coverage in the league, not to mention those three interceptions the last two weeks...

I don't have much confidence in Jenkins' ability to start right now. Not that we have a choice in the matter.

The only time I noticed him against Arizona is when he got away with pass interference on Fitzgerald, and started celebrating like he made the play of the game.

Wow. Way to encourage the rookie you're forced to start because of injury.

Two months ago I thought we had the best group of CB's in the league.

Now, not so much.

I'm excited about seeing Jenkins and Scandrick play...a lot.

Talib has been starting all year...I think the other first rounders have been starting.

Is he better than newman?....duh.

However, I'd rather see Jenkins and Scandrick out there this weekend than Reeves...you can't get experience without playing.

Well whether we like it or not we gotta live with it. I'm a fan of getting this guy some playing time. He is fast and obviously has some talent.
Trial by fire, lets hope for the best.

Hes gonna get beat. I want to see how he responds once he does.

He was the most Nfl ready when he came out I thought.

Let's see if I'm right.

I actually like Cason a lot more. Felt like he was much more NFL ready.

Exactly. You want to help the secondary this week Wade. Than you need to tell your defensive coordinator to get his head out of his behind and tell him to at least use whatever creativity he actually has if it exists. The dline outside of Ware seriously needs to step it's game up.

Yep. And that's how the NYG's young secondary came up big in the playoff last year. To be fair, they had a nasty dline that took the pressure off of the secondary but they still made plays.

He'll do ok unless Wade and Stewart have him playing 10 yds off the WR every down. Give him a chance.

They've got a job this week both up front and back there. That's for sure. The Rams are going to start one of their first day draft picks and the other is going to play. I have no idea how good they are but Holt is going to make them look better unless he's on fire.

I sure wish they would have lost last weeks game and still be down. Thankfully Bulger is a little injured and pretty gun shy. I have no idea how good their OL is.

I'm afraid some think this is going to be a cake walk due to their record but they played the Skins better than we did. Unless we can get up on them early then I think this can be a competitive game.

Is Burnett going to play?

I am excited that the rookies are getting some experience. It will help us if we can get into the playoffs. Aaron Ross played a bunch for the Giants during the season and it helped in the playoffs.
